Father's Day is a very new festival in British compared with Mother's Day, which has been a very popular festival in the UK for a long time.

    Father's Day started in America. Once there was a man called William Smith, whose wife died and he had to raise six children by himself His daughter Sonaro, thought when she grew up what her lather had done for them. So she thought that there should be a Father's Day festival. Later, the tradition was born, falling on the third Sunday every June.

    Britain took the idea of Father's Day from the USA and it has been popular since then.

    What do British people do for Father's Day?

    Well, most people would buy their fathers a card. The card would have a nice message in it saying what a great Dad their father is. Some people do buy presents as well.

    Popular gifts for Dads are probably ties, chocolates or socks because these are things that Dads can always use even if they don't want them.

    Some families might do things together to celebrate it. As a special treat, British people might give their Dad a bit of rest--make him a cup of tea, or even wash his car to make him feel really relaxed.

    Thanksgiving is a family holiday in autumn in Canada and the USA. In Canada, Thanksgiving is in October. In the USA, it is in November. On Thanksgiving, people have a big dinner with their family. They usually eat roast turkey and other delicious food. They also tell Thanksgiving stories and give thanks to their friends and families.

    In China, we also have a family holiday in autumn. It is Mid-Autumn Festival. People get together with their families to have a big dinner, too. They eat mooncakes, talk happily and enjoy looking at the beautiful round moon. Mooncakes are round like the full moon. Some people cannot go back home, but they can look at the moon and think about their families.

    The summer vacation is coming. Tina and Jenny are going to London with the school dancing club. They are going there by plane on July 15. They are going to stay there for six days. They are also going to dance for some English children and learn some English dancing. They want to see Big Ben and visit the British Museum in London. They also want to visit the London Eye and Tower Bridge.

    Sherry is going to the USA with her family. They are going there by car on August 2. She is going to stay with her grandparents in Washington D.C. for a week. Her grandparents' house is near the White House, so Sherry and her family are going to go there, too. She also wants to go to some of the museums in Washington D.C. She is going to take many photos there.

    Wind can be different. Sometimes it blows gently; sometimes it blows strongly. People feel different with different winds. On a hot day, a cool wind feels nice. In winter, a cold wind makes us shiver (颤抖) when the wind blows quickly. It can make wet clothes dry. Children can fly kites. Sometimes it blows slowly. It can move the wind-bell.
