A long time ago, animals in a village were always hungry. A rabbit was walking sadly through the land. Suddenly, a wizard (男巫) came along. The wizard gave the rabbit a bag of flowers and said, "These flowers are magical, and they are even more magical if you know how to use them."

On his way home, the rabbit met an old sheep and found he couldn't walk. The rabbit gave some flowers to the sheep. After he did this, the flowers shone with a thousand colors. To his surprise, the old sheep could walk again and became very healthy.

The rabbit went on walking. The same thing happened when he met a duck and then a hen. When the rabbit went back home, he had only five flowers left. He told his parents all about his experience, and his parents said he did right. Then his little brother got back home, crying, because he was very hungry. The rabbit gave his brother the last five magical flowers.

At that moment, the wizard came along again. He asked the rabbit to go outside and see what had happened. The rabbit went out, and saw the whole countryside had turned into a green place. He found a lot of water and food for all the animals.

The rabbit felt very happy that he brought happiness to everyone.

Once in a physics class, the teacher asked students, "Why do we have brakes in our car?" A student got up and replied, "Sir, to stop the car." Another student replied, "To reduce and control the speed of the car." Another said, "To avoid crashes." Soon, all the students began to give similar answers. So, the teacher decided to answer the question himself. He said, "I appreciate all of your answers, although I look at it this way — the brakes in our car enable us to make it run faster."

Listening to this, there was a deep silence in the class because no one had imagined this answer. The teacher continued, "For a moment, let's suppose our car has no brakes, then how fast are we ready to drive our car? It is the brakes in our car that give us courage to drive our car faster and reach our destination." All the students got confused. They never thought this way about brakes in a car.

The teacher smiled and continued, "Similarly, there are many such brakes in our life, which stop us or restrict(限制) our moment. Our parents, teachers, and friends ask us about the direction we want to follow, our progress or decisions in life. We tend to view their questions or difficult situations as Brakes that slow us down. But what if we see them as our supporter that enables us to take risks while ensuring that we protect ourselves? From time to time, we have to stop or even step back, so that we can take a giant step. It is because of such questions or situations that we are able to reach where we are today. Without these Brakes, we could slip, lose direction or be victim of unfortunate accidents. Therefore, we need to understand that Brakes in our life are not meant to push us back but to help us move forward faster than before, so that we can reach our destination quickly and safely. Should we be thankful for Brakes in life or just see them as hindrance (障碍物) to our work?"

The New House

Grace and her family moved to a new house. It was huge. There was even a third floor. Grace's mom called it an attic(阁楼). 

They moved into the house on a winter day. The next day there was a storm. There was lots of snow. It kept falling and falling. 

Her parents were busy. They were putting things away. Grace played with her toys for a while but then she had an idea. Grace went up to the attic. 

The attic had a big room and a small room. The small room had a window and an old couch(长沙发椅). Grace sat down and watched the snow coming down. Soon she fell asleep. 

It was dark when her father woke her up. He was happy. He thought she had gone outside. 

Her dad said Grace could have the little attic room all to herself. Grace was happy to have her own special place.
