When Millie got up this morning, she found it was a beautiful spring day. She saw some 1 in the sky，but she didn't think about them．She woke up her dog，Eddie，and put him in the 2 ．Then she drove out into the country 3 a picnic with her dog．

When they got to a big tree, Millie stopped her car and told Eddie to get off the car. They began to play games under the 4 . How happy they were!     "No, sir."says the soldier10.

    A man stopped at a gas station and bought a soft drink. He stood by his car to 1 and he watched a couple of men 2 along the roadside.

    One man would dig a hole two or three feet 3 and then move on. 4man came along behind to fill in the hole. While one was digging a new hole, the other was about 25 feet behind 5 in the old hole.

    The man with a soft drink was confused. "I can't stand this," said the man walking toward the men. "Stop it," he said to t e men. "Can you tell me what's 6 here?"

    "Well, we work for the county government," one of the men said.

    "But one of you is digging a hole and the other is filling 7up. You're not accomplishing anything. Aren't you 8 the county's money?"

    "You don't understand," one of the men said.

    "Normally (通常地) there are 9 of us: I Rodney and Mike. I dig the hole Rodney sticks in the tree and Mike here puts earth 10."

    "Yeah," said Mike. "Today Rodney is sick. But that doesn't mean we can't work, does it?"

    Last Saturday, Tony went to see Benny. But he didn't know1Benny lived. 2the way, he stopped in front of a yellow house, and asked an old woman the3to Benny's house. "His house is not far from my house, "said the woman." It's behind the trees. But you can't get there 4. You can go there by bus. It'll5you hours to get there6 foot. ""What's7with her?" Tony thought, "I can see Benny's house from here now. It's behind the8."

    Then Tony walked to the other side of the trees. He found the old woman was9. There was a river in front of him, and he couldn't see a boat. The house was on the other side of the10.

The Secret Soldier

    A young soldier, Robert Shurtliff, lay dying in a hospital bed. He was too 1to speak or move. Two men stood over him.

    "I think this young man has 2 ," one man said.

    "I'll take his jacket and boots," said the other.

    Robert gathered all of his strength to 3 , "I…I'm alive. "

    The doctor came running over as Robert fell into a coma（昏迷）. "We can 4 him," he said as he examined the young soldier, "Oh, my! He's a 5! "

    It was true. The young soldier, Robert Shurtliff, was really Deborah Sampson. 6who was she？
