The New Year was coming. Grace and Alice were going shopping with their mother. The mother wanted to{#blank#}1{#/blank#} them to a Farmers' Fair (集市),but Grace wanted to go to the supermarket. The mother explained that they{#blank#}2{#/blank#} buy fresh fruit and vegetables there, and could support (支持) local farmers as well. Grace agreed.

    The girls were{#blank#}3{#/blank#} when they arrived there. The farmers sold things that they grew{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Alice found a stall (货摊) with red strawberries ,and she{#blank#}5{#/blank#}, "Where did you get so many good strawberries?" The woman answered, "I grow them on my farm. You can come to visit my farm{#blank#}6{#/blank#} you like." "That will be great!" said Alice. At last, Alice asked her mother to buy{#blank#}7{#/blank#} strawberries. They also bought something else.

    At the dinner, the father asked each person to say something{#blank#}8{#/blank#} this day. Alice said, "I want to thank not only the strawberries, but also the{#blank#}9{#/blank#} They needed to work so {#blank#}10{#/blank#}to grow strawberries." Grace then said, "We should thank the food and the people who bring it to us every day." Alice and Grace's parents smiled.

Indian teenager Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa,18 years old, is a rising star in the chess circle. He {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(catch) the world's attention(注意力)since he beat the world No. 1 chess player Magnus Carlsen.

It was {#blank#}2{#/blank#}online competition. He played from his computer in Chennai, India,{#blank#}3{#/blank#}about three in the morning.

It was Pragg's {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(one) win over Carlsen, and he became the youngest player to beat Carlsen since Carlsen became the world champion in 2013.

However, people didn't expect {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(complete) that Pragg would beat Carlsen. On Day 1of the competition, Carlsen won three games at first while Pragg lost three games.

As the game went on, Pragg was happy {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(play) a better game. When Carlsen made a mistake in his 32nd move, Pragg saw the chance. He cleverly turned the tables on Carlsen in the next 10 {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (minute) and 7 moves. During his game with Carlsen, Pragg played the black chess pieces. So people thought his win was even {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (surprising).

Born on August 10th, 2005, Pragg began to surprise others from a young age. In 2016, he became the youngest international master (大师) in history. Two years later, he then became the youngest grandmaster {#blank#}9{#/blank#}he beat Russia's Sergey Karjakin.

For young Pragg, his recent success will go on to encourage {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(he) to move forward throughout the years.

I was playing at the front gate, trying to decide whether to walk down the street to play with Jenny, when I saw a poor man coming up the road.

"Hello, little girl," he said, "Is your mama at home?"

I nodded and opened the gate to let him get in the yard. He looked like all the homeless men who came to my home before. His messy hair hung below a shapeless hat, and his old shirt and trousers had been rained on and slept in. He smelled bad.

He walked to the door. When my mother appeared, he asked, "Lady, could you spare something to eat?" "I think so. Please sit on the step."

Later, my mother came back and banded him a sandwich made from homemade bread and generous pieces of boiled meat. She also gave him a bottle of milk. "I thank you, lady." he said.

I played at the gate, watching the man wolf down the sandwich and empty the cup. After finishing the food, he stood up and walked back through the gate. "    ▲ "He told me on the way out.

Jenny had said all the homeless men told each other who would feed them. "They never come to my house!" she had said proudly and happily.

"So why does Mama feed the poor man?" I wondered. I walked inside. "Jenny's mama says those men are too lazy to work. Why do we feed them?"

My mother smiled. "Sweetheart, we don't know why these men don't work," she said, "but they were babies once. And their mamas loved them, just like I love you." She put her hands on my shoulders and drew me close to her.

"For me, I fed them for their mothers, because if you were ever hungry and had nothing to eat, I would want others' mothers to feed you."

I seemed to find out the answer to my question and understand that.

Emily Green is my friend. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} April 23rd, 2022, she made an excellent speech in English at a club.

In 1997, Emily was born in a poor family in Beijing. From an early age, she was  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}m teaming English and always spoke English with others. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Emily's family couldn't pay for her study in an English school, she kept learning English by herself.

Many people wanted to know how she learned English so well. Emily enjoyed sharing her experience with {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(In fact, she worked very hard and she found many great{#blank#}5{#/blank#} to learn it well. She learned English every day. She liked to {#blank#}6{#/blank#} to English radio or tapes at breakfast. In class, she listened to all her {#blank#}7{#/blank#} very carefully. After class, she read the words, sentences and texts again and again. She {#blank#}8{#/blank#} down the mistakes in the notebooks. She {#blank#}9{#/blank#} learned English by watching American TV shows. She imitated(模仿) the actors' words {#blank#}10{#/blank#} sentences in the shows. After years of hard work, her English became very good. People liked to talk with her in English.

Travelling is not always happy, at least for the buddies in the movie Green Book. The popular film won Best Picture at the 91st Academy Awards on Feb. 25. 

The movie was adapted from the true story of a road trip through the southern US in the early 1960s. In the film, the black pianist Don Shirley hires Italian- American Tony Vallelonga to drive him to performances, but they face problems because of Shirley's skin colour. These problems lead them to form a special friendship. 

"There's something so deeply right about this movie, so true to the time," wrote US film critic Mick LaSalle. The time LaSalle is talking about was between late 1870s and 1960s, a very different period in US history. Many parts of the country had Jim Crow Laws (《吉姆·克劳法》) , which allowed racial segregation (种族隔离) . These laws made life and travel ____ for African- Americans. They couldn't use certain hotels, restaurants, or even gas stations. They had to be indoors after sunset or they might be put into prison. Even black celebrities (名人) had to follow the laws. 

But in 1936, a black mail carrier named Victor H. Green had an idea. He made a list of friendly businesses in New York City. He published the list as a small book with a green cover. The Green Book helped African- Americans travel more safely. Then, in 1964, Jim Crow Lawswent away. The book went away, too. 

Today many US people still remember the time of Jim Crow. But they probably don't know about the Green Book. It's a forgotten part of the story. Thanks to this movie, maybe people can remember it again.
