Do some colours makes you feel calm while others give you energy? Scientists have studied the connection between colour and mood(心情) for a long time. Many believe that colour can influence our moods.

    Warm, bright colours such as yellow and red are positive colours. They can give people a pleasant feeling. Cool colours such as blue, purple, and green are relaxing colours. They help people experience calm feelings.

    Many public places are decorated(装饰) with certain colours in order to create certain moods. Orange makes people feel hungry, and many restaurants are painted in this colour.

    People use colour in their homes to create moods as well. Blue is a peaceful colour. It helps you rest, so it is a very good colour for a bedroom.

    Colours can also create bad moods. Some types of blue make people feel sad. Red can make people feel angry.

    What is your mood right now? Now look at the colour of the walls round you. Does it match your mood?

      Nowadays people are making themselves beautiful in Korean ways.

     “Thank goodness you have double eyelids(双眼皮). Your parents will save a lot of money.” said a family friend when I was five years old. Double eyelids, which almost all the white people have, are rare among Northeast Asians. Only 25% of South Koreans are born with double eyelids.

      I never quite understood how having double eyelids saved my parents money until this summer. When I came back to Seoul, everywhere I noticed cosmetic surgery clinics(整形诊所) and advertisements with South Korean women—tall, thin, with milky skin, long legs, nice big eyes and perfect noses. I found that South Korean beauty meant looking as “white” as possible.

      Cosmetic surgery has a kind of magical attraction(吸引) to women — the promise of beauty. Women are often sure that suffering is necessary and worthy in order to be beautiful. This suffering is not for nothing. It is believed that beauty leads to attracting a better-looking partner, which then leads to a better-looking child and a better life.

      Appearance is starting to be more important in work places. People with good appearance can have more chances .For example, my 29-year-old brother, who is slim and very tall, gets more job chances than his best friend, who is short and heavy, though both of them came from the same college, had the same good marks in their studies. In fact, many South Koreans believe that physical beauty equals happiness

    In the United States, teenagers (青少年) can only get a full-time(全职的)job if they are 16 years old or older. But there are things that the younger teeagers make some money. Here are a few examples.

    Parents will young children sometimes want to go out for dinner or to the movies, but they don't want to leave their children at home alone. So they ask a teenager to stay in the house and look after their children when they are out. If the children go to bed early, the teenager can do some of his or her homework!

    Some people have a dog, but they don't have time to take it for a walk. Dogs need a lot of exercise! So some teenagers work as dog walkers. It's a good idea -- they can make money and stay outside in the fresh air. They get some exercise too!

    Teenagers can deliver (递送) newspapers. They usually ride a bike and leave newspapers at each house. They need to have their own (自己的) bike. They have to get up early too, because people want to read their newspapers at breakfast.

    Teenagers can also work at home on their computers. Some companies pay teenagers to take online surveys (调查). They want to know what teenagers are interested in. It's a fun and easy way to make money.

    Students spend more time at school than anywhere else. At school, children need a safe and comfortable environment to help them learn. By doing the following, parents can help make sure children have a good school life.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Ask your children if they see anyone bullied(被欺负), if they are bullied, or if anything else makes them feel uncomfortable. Look for warning signs, such as a sudden drop in grades or a loss of friends.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Tell children that fighting could lead to them getting hurt, or hurting someone else. Tell them about other ways they can solve a problem, such as walking away or telling to teachers or the adult you know well.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Talk to your children about what they do online—what websites they visit, who they email, and who they chat with. Let them know they can talk to you if anything they see online makes them uncomfortable.

    I'd like to thank you for giving money to "Animal Helpers", I'm sure you know that this group was set up to help people like me. You helped to make it possible for me to have Lucky. Lucky makes a big difference to my life. Let me tell you my story.

    What would it be like to be blind or deaf? Or imagine you can't walk or use your hands easily. Most people would never think about this, but many people have these difficulties, I can't use my arms or legs well, so normal things like answering the telephone, opening and closing doors or carrying things are difficult for me. Then one day last year, a friend of mine helped me out. She talked to Animal Helpers about getting me a special trained dog. She also thought a dog might cheer me up. I love animals and I was excited about the idea of having a dog.

    After six months of training with a dog at Animal Helpers, I was able to bring him home. My dog's name is Lucky—a good name for him because I feel very lucky to have him. You see, I'm only able to have a "dog-helper" because of your kindness! Lucky is very clever and understands many English words. He can understand me when I give him orders. For example, I say, "Lucky! get my book," and he does it at once.
