Taipan Village is a small, mountainous community in the Guizhou Province of Southwestern China. What's special is that this village, home to fewer than 1,200 residents, has become a hot topic on the internet due to its vibrant(活力满满的) basketball competition, often referred to as "Cun BA. "

Since 2020, local farmers in the area have found a fun way to celebrate their successful harvests(丰收): basketball games. The rules of "Cun BA" require that players be local male farmers aged 18 to 35. This means you'll see people with all kinds of day jobs like raising cows, growing wheat, and selling vegetables competing on different teams. These farmers started their own basketball league, comprising a total of 198 teams.

These games attract a big crowd. Many basketball fans travel long distances just to watch and cheer for their favorite teams. Even people originally from Taipan Village who now work elsewhere make the trip back home to enjoy the games. Over the 45-day competition period, Taipan Village welcomes more than 500,000 visitors, which creates new opportunities for sports and tourism. On the first day of the tournament(联赛), they made over 300,000 yuan in sales from goods like mascot toys, basketballs, and team uniforms. It's clear that basketball is making a big difference in improving this once-poor village.

Hukou Waterfall: Water Falls from the Sky

Hukou Waterfall is the largest yellow waterfall in the world. It is also the second waterfall in China next to Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou Province. 

From its headwater in Qinghai Province, the Yellow River 1  all the way to the east and finally to the sea. It carries Chinese history and civilisation(文明) of more than 5, 000 years, so the Yellow River is 2  as China's" Mother River". 

As it flows to Hukou Village, the river sharply reduced from 500 metres 3  to only about 50 metres. The calm water suddenly falls down into a deep pool 4  thousands of wild horses run forward wildly. As a result, a wonderful waterfall 5 . It seems that the water pours down from a big teapot(茶壶), so the waterfall has the name Hukou — meaning the 6  of teapot in Chinese. 

The falling water brings huge smoke and clouds, with colour 7  from yellow to grey, grey to blue. People 8  this heart-shaking sight "smoke from the river". There is also a stone under the waterfall. It moves up and down 9  the falling water. You can see it all the time as the water is always changing, so it is 10  guishi, meaning the"mysterious stone". 

Over history, lots of poets and painters once travelled here. They really enjoyed the 11  view, and left a lot of works about the great waterfall. Li Bai's Invitation to Wine(《将进酒》), one of 12 , maybe the best-known. It says, " Do not you see the Yellow River 13  the sky, rushing into the sea and never come back?"

There are many 14  at Hukou Waterfall, such as smoke from the river, boats on land and rainbows in the sunshine. April and October are the best time to 15  Hukou Waterfall. Why? Because the water is full!
