Mr. Brown was going away for a week. He said to his son," {#blank#}1{#/blank#} anyone asks for me, you can tell him that your father has {#blank#}2{#/blank#} out for doing something and will be back {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a week." He was afraid his son couldn't remember this, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} he wrote these words down on a piece of paper and give it to him.

    Four {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (day) passed, but no one came to see his father. The boy thought that there was no one to come and that the paper was of no {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (valuable) for him, so he put it on fire that evening.

The next afternoon, someone came and said, "Where is your father?" The boy looked {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (worry). He said to himself. "I {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (put) the paper on fire already." So he {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (shout), "No more." The man was so surprised that he said. "No more? I met your father last week! And tell me {#blank#}10{#/blank#} it happened! ""On fire yesterday evening." the boy said.

    Mike is 13 years old, and he is interested in collecting stamps. He began to collect stamps when he was 8 years old. He spends all his pocket money on stamps. Sometimes his parents send him stamps when he does well in his study. Therefore, Mike collects a lot of stamps. He often shows his stamps to his friends and his neighbours (邻居). He usually goes to his mail box (信箱) to get letters after school. He wants the stamps from them. One day, Mike went to the mail box to get letters. But there were no letters in his box. He found a letter in the box next to his. The letter is to Mrs Green. There was a beautiful stamp on the letter. So he got off the stamp carefully and hurried home. After he went home, he was afraid that Mrs Green would know he got her stamp. On the morning of the next day, Mike put the stamp back to Mrs Green's box and then went to school. When he came back from school, he met Mrs Green. She smiled to Mike. Mike smiled, too.

    One day, as a Chinese teacher walked into his classroom, he heard Tom Andrews whisper to another boy, "Here comes the teacher. I'm sure the silly donkey is going to talk about putting in commas(送号). "The teacher said nothing but decided to teach him a good lesson. Now the teacher began his class, and talked about putting in commas, and explained how important they could be. " I'll give you an example, "said the teacher. He wrote on the blackboard the sentence: "Tom Andrews says the Chinese teacher is a foolish donkey. " The class laughed and looked at Tom, Tom looked red and he thought the Chinese teacher also knew English well. " Now, "said the teacher, "Let me show you how important commas are. He put two commas into the sentence and it was. Tom Andrews, says the teacher, is a foolish donkey. " Only at that time Tom knew the importance of commas and felt terribly sorry for his words.

Here are four very great and famous people in China. They work very hard and have influenced(影响) our lives a lot.

①Millions of people around the world cook their food on fire every day.People must spend lots of money on cooking fuel.However，there is a much easier and cheaper way to cook using energy from the sun.

②Solar cookers have been used for centuries.A Swiss scientist made the first solar cooker in 1777.Today，people are using solar cookers in many countries around the world.People use them to cook food and to heat drinking water.

③There are three kinds of solar cookers.The first is a box cooker.It is designed with a special wall that collects sunshine into the box.A box cooker is good for slow cooking of a lot of food.

④The second kind of solar cooker is a panel cooker.It has several flat walls that collect the sunshine onto the food.People can build panel cookers quickly.They do not cost much.In Kenya，for example，panel cookers cost just two dollars.

⑤The third kind of solar cooker is a parabolic（抛物线的） cooker.It has rounded walls that collect sunlight into the bottom of the cooker.Food is cooked quickly in parabolic cookers.However，these cookers are hard to make.They must be moved again and again to follow the sun.Parabolic cookers can also cause burns and eye injuries if they are not used correctly.

⑥You can make solar cookers from boxes or heavy paper.They will not catch fire.Paper burns at 232℃.A solar cooker never gets hotter than that.Solar cookers cook food at low temperatures over long time.This allows people to cook food and do other things at the same time.

There once lived a bird and her two new- born babies in a forest. One day, there was a big storm. There was thunder lightning and rain and the wind blew down many trees. The tall tree in which the birds lived also came down. A big, heavy branch hit the nest and killed the mother bird. Fortunately for the baby birds, the strong wind blew them away to the other side of the forest. One of them came down near a cave where a gang of robbers(强盗) lived. The other landed outside a wise man's ashrama little distance away.

Days passed and the baby birds became big birds. One day, the king of the country came to the forest to hunt. He saw a deer and rode after it. It ran deep into the forest followed by the king. Soon the king lost his way.

He rode on for a long time till he came to the other side of the forest. Very tired by now, he got off his horse and sat down under a tree that stood near a cave. Suddenly he heard a voice cry out," Ouick! Hurry up! There's someone under the tree. Come and take his jewels and his horse. Hurry or else he'll slip away." The king was amazed. He looked up and saw a big, brown bird on the tree under which he was sitting. He also heard faint noises coming from the cave. He quickly got on to his horse and rode away as fast as he could.

Soon, he came to a clearing which looked like an ashram. It was the wise man's ashram. The king tied his horse to a tree and sat down. Suddenly he heard a gentle voice announce," Welcome, Sir. Please go inside and rest. The host will be back soon. Come and make yourself comfortable." The king looked up and saw a big, brown bird. He was amazed." This one looks like the other bird outside the cave," he said to himself.

Later the wise man came back." Welcome, Sir," he said to the king." Please come inside. You look tired. Rest for a while. Then you can share my food."

The king told the wise man the story of the two birds and how each had behaved so differently though they looked so alike." The forest is full of surprises," he said.

The wise man smiled and said," After all, one is known by the company one keeps.    That bird has always heard the talk of robbers. He talks about robbing people. This one has repeated what he has always heard. He welcomes people to the ashram."
