Not only women wear skirts. Men can wear them, too. In Scotland (苏格兰), men wear a kilt – a kind of skirt. The kilt is their national dress.
      The kilt has checks (方格) and different colors, like red or blue. Each family in Scotland has its own colors. How did the Scotsmen (苏格兰男人) start to wear kilts. There is a story about it. Rawlinson had some workers from Scotland in his office and he thought their clothing got in the way of their work. So he cut their clothes into a shorter skirt.
      Today, they usually only wear them at weddings (婚礼) or big dinners. Only a few men wear a kilt every day. Scotsmen also wear kilts in big parties. The policemen still have skills as the dress uniforms, but they don't wear them to catch the thieves.

    Libraries give kids a quiet and safe place to read and learn. For over 100 years, libraries have played an important role in Americans' education. But how are these book-filled buildings changing with the times? You may be surprised to find out.

    Benjamin Franklin famously founded America's first lending library in 1731. But the public library system got its biggest development in the American history in the late 1800's. Businessman Andrew Carnegie donated millions of dollars to help build free public libraries across the country. Between 1886 and 1919, Carnegie's donations helped build 1,679 new libraries.

    Carnegie believed that libraries could offer the chances to Americans, young and old. He knew that the more libraries there were, the more people would have opportunities to read and use books, speeches and news.

    If you can easily find a public library in your community, you'll get more chances. After all, the United States has 9,225 public libraries. Today, libraries keep growing. Seven tenths of the libraries have free Internet. It provides much more information and opportunities to ask for jobs online.

    Libraries are also teaching kids about the fun of reading. The new program Read! Build! Play! Adds reading into playtime. As kids listen to a book that is being read aloud, they use Legos (乐高积木) to build images(图像)from the story happily. Today's libraries are always looking for creative programs to bring people into the library.

    Benjamin Franklin once said, “The doors of wisdom are never shut.” As long as the doors of public libraries are open, what he said is most certainly correct!

As dead as a dodo

Basketball is an active and much-loved sport that is enjoyed by many people for fun and exercise. So far, the "Village Basketball Association" at Taipan Village in Guizhou has got tons of attention. The final game of the Guizhou country basketball league, known as "Village BA" took place on March 

27. The winner was Team Qiangongnan and prizes for the team with bags of rice, fish and ducks. Most of the players are farmers from local villages and nearby cities. People even can't get a single seat because more than 30 000 people from across the country come to the small village to watch the game. People knocked on iron pots and bowls to cheer for players . Villagers sang folk songs and danced in the halftime show.

Taipan has now been a model place of rural vitalization(乡村振兴)in sports and tourism(旅游业). In the summer of 2022, about 500,000 visitors came here to watch "Village BA" game and it brought great benefits to the village. Zeng Jinlong, a 17-year-old villager, has watched the games for the first time when he was 6 years old. He said, "I dream of taking part in the ‘Village BA' final one day."
