I was recently invited to dinner by a friend. During the meal, the manager came over and said that our meal was free. He stood there 1 at me, he seemed to know me. 2 I asked if he knew me. He laughed and said I had probably 3 him, but I had changed his life. He said that twelve years ago he was in 4 stress management class. I asked the group what their number one stress was and 5 of them, including him, said it was their 6.

He said I listened carefully and then took a chair and placed it in the center of the room. I 7 on the chair for a few minutes and then I invited everyone to do the same. I wanted them to look at the room from 8 there. After everyone had done it, I asked the group to think about how 9 the room looked when they changed their perspective(角度).

Then I asked them to 10 their bosses. Was this the same person who had seen their good 11 and hired(雇佣) them? Do they remember how happy they were to be 12 for the job? How did these wonderful people become terrible bosses?

He said I looked at him and asked if he had 13 said thank you to his boss for the opportunity to make a living. He answered no.

He told me his 14 changed that night. He went back to work with a 15 card to his boss. He had been the manager for 8 years. He said he owed(把……归功于) it all to me: I had taught him to look at life from different perspectives and I had taught him to express gratitude(感激之情).

In Mr. Carl's class, the students had a discussion about what animal they would like to have as a pet. Most students wanted common pets. These 1 dogs and cats. But a few students had different ideas.

Vivian liked peacocks ( 孔 雀 )because she thought the big birds were beautiful. Some students thought it was 2 to keep a peacock as a pet. But Vivian told her 3 that it was quite easy. Peacocks can live well 4 the environment isn't very good. And if you 5 them with other large birds, you'll find they can live longer. They can live up to 12 to 15 years and even 20 years. So, if you have a peacock as a pet, you can enjoy being with it for a 6 time.

Nick said he would like to have a fennec fox(耳廓狐) . He said that fennec foxes are the smallest of all the world's foxes. They are 7 35. 6 to 40. 6 centimeters long and usually weigh between 0. 9 to 1, 4 kilos. Their small 8 makes it possible to keep them in homes. They can live up to 12 to 15 years if they get. 9 care and live in a good environment. And they are friendly to people.

The students had different ideas of. 10 their pets. Mr. Carl told them no matter (无论)what animal they wanted to have at home, they must love it and take care of it.

Jerry is a world-famous mountain climber. He climbed many high mountains in the world. Starting in 2015, he and his friends spent two years on an adventure (探险) in South America. In 2018, a famous geography magazine even named him Adventure of the Year.

Although Jerry achieved great success, he didn't feel satisfied. He asked himself, "Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I change my adventures into something that can help the world?"

Jerry learned that scientists need plants, rocks and water samples (样本) from the places far away to do research. But scientists can't get there themselves because such places are hard to reach—only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought he could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He organized a team of top adventurers to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.

Recently Jerry and his adventurer friends have discovered a special plant life of Mount Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists study how plants live in extreme (极端的) condition.

For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. "Such adventures had made us see life in a different way. Now, being the best climber isn't important for me. What matters is doing something helpful while climbing the mountains. There is still much more we can do," Jerry said to a newspaper.
