Our world has all kinds of colours. They make the world so colourful. What's your favourite colour? Here are some answers from four students:

David: I like winter, because it often snows in winter. When it snows, everything is white. It's beautiful and I can go skiing. I like the colour best.

Betty: My favourite colour is green. Green is the colour of the world. When I see green thing, I always think of my favourite sport, soccer. The soccer field(场地) is green, too!

Kate: Strawberries and cherries are my favourite fruit. What colour are they? They are red! The setting sun is red. Our national flag (国旗) is red. Red is also the color of fire. It always make us warm and excited.

Jack: The sky and sea have the same colour—blue. That's my favourite colour. Blue makes me calm (平静).When I'm unhappy because of a bad school grade, I just lie on the grass and look up at the beautiful blue sky.

    Science fiction is a popular kind of writing. Many people think of Jules Verne as the father of science fiction. He was born in France in 1828. His father wanted him to become a lawyer. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} At first he wrote plays for the theater. Then, in 1863, he wrote a story called Five Weeks in a Balloon. The success of this book encouraged him to write more stories, such as A Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864) and From the Earth to the Moon (1865).

    In the 19th century, many people were interested in science and inventions. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}As a result, they were very popular. Verne's writing included many predictions (预言) for the 20th century and many of them came true. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}These books were very successful and they made Verne rich.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} 20 ， 000 Leagues Under the Sea was a successful movie for Walt Disney. It was the first Disney movie to use real actors instead of cartoon drawings. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}The main character is an Englishman called Phileas Fogg. For him, the most important thing is to be always on time!

    Lu Xun was an excellent writer and thinker of modern China. He took part in the May

    Fourth New Culture Movement of 1919. He could be said to have laid the foundation(基础)of modern literature(文学)in China. You couldn't believe that he almost became a doctor! So how did Lu Xun give up the study of medicine and take up writing？

    When he was young, his father fell badly ill, and little Lu Xun bought medicine for him.

    But the medicine bought from a quack doctor(庸医)did his father no good at all, and his father died. With a deep sadness and great anger, Lu Xun promised to study the most modern medical skills and help people through medicine. He studied hard, and was accepted to study in Sendai Medical College in Japan.

    However, one event changed Lu Xun's life. One day, the teacher played a film of news in class. In the film, Japanese soldiers were preparing to kill a Chinese while some Chinese were watching it with great interest, as if it had nothing to do with them. After that, Lu Xun thought he should treat the numb(麻木的)spirits of Chinese.

    For this reason, he gave up the study of medicine and moved to Tokyo. He produced a magazine with some friends there. As a writer. Lu Xun hoped that he could save Chinese people with his pen. Many of his works were translated into the leading languages, including English, Russian, German, French and Japanese.
