完形填空

    One day, I heard an American boy say to a Chinese girl student, "You speak very good English."1the girl answered, "No, no. My English is very poor. "The foreigner was quite2at the answer. Thinking he had not made3understood or the girl had not heard him clearly, he said, "Yes, indeed, you speak very well."

    But the girl4kept saying, "No." In the end the American boy could not understand and didn't know5to say.

    What's wrong with the girl's answer? She didn't6a compliment(恭维) in the same way as the American people do. She should answer "Thank you" instead of "No". She7understood what the American boy had said, but she thought she should be modest. In the west, people will feel proud and8when they are praised. So if someone says the dishes you have9are very delicious, you should say, "Thank you."

    In our country we think being modest is a virtue(美德) and being10is a bad thing, but in my opinion, being confident does not11being proud. So sometimes you should be confident12being modest.

    If you are modest and say, "No, I'm afraid I13do it well", while working in a western country, the others may think that you really cannot do it. If you often say "No", you will certainly be looked down upon by14. When asking for a job, if one says something like "Yes, I can certainly do it' instead of "Let me have a try", he or she will15getting it. So in the west, you should be brave to show your self-confidence.

 阅读下面短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Most parents don't know what their teenage children are talking about when they are having a chat with their friends. This is also true when teenagers are using the language of texting to send messages. Words like 18r are easy to understand, but what about"POS"? I asked some parents what it means and only 28% got it right! It means that a parent is near and that they are watching what their child is doing.

Parents worry a lot and like to know what is happening in their children's lives at all times. This means they try to control as much of their children's lives as possible. However, they have no control over the language that their children use, so it is a useful way for children to keep parts of their life secret.

Parents also complain that they never have serious conversations with their teenage children. Teenagers are always busy phoning or texting their friends- even when parents are trying to talk to them. And there are times when teenagers aren't busy, but they just don't feel like having a serious chat with mum or dad!

One way to start real conversations is to make sure that the whole family eats together at mealtimes and that everyone has a chance to talk. Teenagers are trying to find out who they are. They aren't adults yet, but they are learning how to act like big people.

This means that it is a good idea to speak to teenagers like they are adults and it helps to listen to their ideas and opinions carefully. When parents talk to their teenagers, some good ad vice is" Don't sound like your own parents!". In addition, parents who try to use the language of teenagers often sound very silly. And that's because most times when an adult tries to use" teen talk", the words are probably already unfashionable!

阅读下面短文,从方框里的六个句子中选择五个还原到原文, 使原文的意思连贯、完整。

 Some people may be afraid of making others upset if they share their feelings. However, hiding your own feelings can lead to anxiety, depression and even unhealthiness.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Here are some tips for you to express your feelings.

 Accept your feelings.

 Before you can do anything else, you have to realize that you are going to have feelings and there is nothing wrong with that.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Instead, tell yourself, "I am feeling this way, and that is acceptable."

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

 Get in the habit of putting your emotions down on paper or in your phone. Try to set aside 20 minutes per day to your diary. Don't worry about grammar and just write quickly to block out any unnecessary thoughts.

 Communicate to others clearly.

 Choose a trusted group of loved ones to share your feelings with. As you are talking, be as clear as possible by using your vocabulary of feelings.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

 Take a short break.

 Sometimes, feelings become too difficult to deal with.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} This doesn't mean paying no attention to them, but only that you need a rest to sort them out when you' re ready.

A. Record your thoughts.

B. Understand your feelings.

C. When you feel something, do not be angry with yourself.

D. In this situation, all that you need is just a break from them.

E. It can also cause problems with your personal relationships.

F. For example, clearly describe a situation and how it made you feel.
