Joel Sartore is a writer, teacher, and photographer. His words and beautiful images show his love of photography and of the natural world. 

Question 1: How did you become a National Geographic photographer?

My first job was for a newspaper. After a few years there, I met a National Geographic photographer. He liked my photos and said I should send some to the magazine. So I did. That led to a one—day job. And that led to a nine—day job, and so on.

To get into National Geographic, you have to give them something they don't have. It's not enough just to be a great photographer. You also have to be a scientist, for example, or be able to dive under sea ice, or spend maybe several days in a tree. 

Question 3: Is it hard to get a job as a photographer today?

It's now harder to work for magazines. Technology makes it easy to take good pictures, which means there are more photos and photographers. Also, the Web is filled with photos from all around the world that are free, or cost very little. These photos are often good enough to be put in books and magazines. What the magazines need to do these days is to pay for these photos. 

Question 4: I want to be a photographer. Do you have any advice for me?

Advice? Well, work hard. Be passionate (热情的)about every project you work on. Take lots of pictures in different situations. Look at others' photos thoughtfully and learn from them. And be curious about everything. There's something to photograph everywhere. 

Chen Kai and Zhang Juntao are good friends. They study in No. 5 Middle School. They are in the same class. Chen Kai's home isn't far from school. So he walks there. It just takes him about 10 minutes. He is often the first student to get to school. Zhang Juntao's home is 10 kilometers from school. He takes the subway to school. And he is never late for school.

Chen Kai likes math. But he doesn't like English. He thinks it's difficult to remember English words. But Zhang Juntao's English is good. So he often helps Chen Kai learn English. The two boys like music. Chen Kai is good at playing the guitar and Zhang Juntao can sing very well. They are in the school music club. On weekends, Zhang Juntao sometimes goes to Chen Kai's home. Chen Kai plays the guitar and Zhang Juntao sings songs. They always have a good time.

The two boys also like animals. They often go to the zoo. Zhang Juntao likes giraffes because they are beautiful and friendly. Chen Kai's favorite animals are pandas. He thinks they are cute.

Li Hua from Huadu was once having his holiday in Italy，but he could not speak Italian.One day he went to a restaurant and sat down at a table.When the waiter came，Li Hua opened his mouth，he put his hands on his stomach.In a few minutes，there was a large plate of bread and meat on the table in front of him.

Li Hua saw how the other person easily showed he was hungry by touching his stomach，and then got a big meal quickly.Li Hua thought this was a good idea.So he pointed to the other man's food and smiled at the waiter.The waiter understood and soon gave him a similar meal.Li Hua deeply knew how important it is to communicate without words.Even though he couldn't speak Italian，he still could tell people what he wanted by using gestures.

Later，when he walked around Italy，he realized that a simple gesture or smile could say a lot.People could understand each other through feelings and shared understanding.

After that，Li Hua learned to read people's body language better.This helped him enjoy his travels more and understand other cultures.

And when he told people about his funny experience in the restaurant，he always laughed and said，"A simple gesture can really help!"

Do you have a good sleep every night? March 21 is World Sleep Day. It's a good time to think about our sleeping habits (习惯) and get more sleep. Sleep is important (重要的) for our heath.

But today, many people have bad habits. They use their phones to talk with friends on Wechat (微信) or play games on bed. They get too excited before sleep. Some other people have too much stress (压力) from work. It makes them have bad sleep.

Losing (失去) one or two hours of sleep every night can make us tired or get ill. "If you don't get enough sleep at night, you may sleep in class. If you sleep, you don't learn anything," said Mary, a teacher from a middle school.

How much sleep do you need? For 12 to 15-year-old students, you need 8.5 to 9 hours a day. The best time to go to bed is 10:00-10:30 at night.

How to sleep well?

✧ Stop using your phone before sleep.

✧ Try to go to bed at the same time every day, even on weekends and holiday.

✧ Listen to beautiful music before you go to bed.

Hello, everybody!I am Kevin. I am a student of Nanhai Middle School. My school is very beautiful. I study in Class Two, Grade Seven. 

Look, there is a map of our school on the wall. There are four buildings and five gardens in our school. In the gardens, there are a lot of beautiful flowers, grass and trees. 

There is a big playground in my school. It is in the middle of the school. 

On the left of the playground, there is a building. It's the library. On the first floor, there are two big reading rooms. I like reading there very much. I often borrow books from the library too. 

There is a teaching building behind the library. We study in that building. My classroom is on the second floor in it. The science room, the computer room and the music room are all on the fifth floor. The teachers' offices are in that building too. 

Where is the sports hall? Oh, it's on the right of the playground. We often have PE lessons in the sports hall. The canteen is a building behind the sports hall. We have lunch and dinner in the canteen. 

I like my school because my school is very beautiful. In the school, I feel very happy. 

Do video games do harm to our children? Today, many children spend a lot of their free time playing games on the Internet. In the UK, 99% of kids aged 8 to 15 play video games every week. This information tells us that the benefits and dangers of video games must be carefully considered. 

For many people, video games are fun. They have bright lights, funny cartoons and exciting stories. Everywhere you look, you can see children playing these games. They play on buses and trains, in restaurants and even at school. 

Video games are educational too. They make kids think in a creative way and they have to move their hands and eyes quickly. This can improve the way that a child's brain works. What's more, video games make children use their imagination. The player has to do many creative things, like drawing, telling stories and building things. Video games are also a good way to teach children about technology because they can learn how computers and other devices work while they play. 

However, a recent study suggests that video games can also be bad for children. First, children can download many games for free. This means that parents often don't know if their children are playing violent or scary games. Second, many children spend too much time playing games on computers and this can lead to health problems. Third, if children spend too much time playing games instead of doing homework, they can have problems at school and get bad grades. Finally, video games can affect children's social skills. If children spend too much time playing video games by themselves, they might not learn how to play with their friends. 

In conclusion, it seems clear that video games have some advantages and some disadvantages. It is up to parents to know what games their children are playing and how much time they spend on them. Parents should also make sure their children get enough exercise and spend time with other children.
