A man bought a donkey at the market one day and took him home. Now the man owned several donkeys already and he knew each one's character very well. One of the donkeys was very strong and brave. Another always wanted to make people happy by working quickly but soon got tired. One donkey was very lazy. He hated going to work in the morning and he did as little as he       possibly could all day long. When the other animals were being loaded up(装载), he always tried to be the last so that he would get the lightest load.
The man led the new donkey into the yard. For a moment the new donkey stood sniffing(闻，嗅) at his new friends. Then, without hesitation, he came up to the lazy donkey and began eating comfortably at his side.
Though it was late in the day, the man immediately led the new donkey out of the yard, straight back to the market.
"You can't have given him a fair trial yet," said the seller, "It is only ten minutes since you bought him."
"I don't need to try him any more,"replied the man, "I know just what he is like from the friend he chose for himself. Take him away and give me my money back. I can do without donkeys like him."

Kiran Alwy, 13, went home with 10,000 dollars in prize money after winning on Food Network's Chopped Junior, a popular cooking show in the US.

On the show, Alwy made lemonade, Lobster tail（龙虾尾）and white chocolate macaroni （通心粉）and cheese into a lobster mac and cheese. She also made a beautiful salad topper. Her ability to improvise（即兴创作）helped make her a winner.

Learning to cook became important to Alwy after her parents got divorced（离婚）. "I kind of had to cook for myself. My mom can't really cook," Alwy said.

Alwy learned her kitchen skills from her father, Moid, and her grandmother, who taught her how to make traditional Pakistani dishes when she was 8. Her parents let her start using the stove while they watched her. Moid taught her how to correctly use a knife. Alwy would practice her skills by following recipe from meal kits.

"The kits helped me learn a few skills," Alwy said. "I also learned how to improvise according to different recipe because I saw what ingredients（食材）were in things. The important thing is having your own idea."

At her dad's house in St. Louds Park, Alwy would try cooking with whatever they had on hand. "If we had ground beef in the fridge, I knew how to make a dish quickly," she said.

Outside of the kitchen, Alwy has the busy life of a middle-schooler. She swims and plays the cello. She hangs out with friends, gets good grapes and watches TV—mostly cooking shows.

Lydia likes running a lot. She always runs, and picks up rubbish along the way. This activity{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (call) "plogging", an activity combining collecting rubbish with running. Last June, she first learned the idea of plogging{#blank#}2{#/blank#} the Internet and decided to plog. 

Lydia runs four or five times a week and takes{#blank#}3{#/blank#}walk with her two dogs every day. She often wears her{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (glove) and takes several bags when she goes out. Sometimes she spends half an hour{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (collect) rubbish. She says she{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (waste) the last few years of her running life.  Now she feels{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (good) to do plogging than just running by the litter. 

"It takes just a moment to stop and pick something up off the ground. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}, it makes a big difference to my community. Now my husband also joins me. " Lydia says{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (proud). "It doesn't matter{#blank#}10{#/blank#} much rubbish I pick up. It's a good way to protect our planet. "

Mr Black is my uncle. He is thirty-three years old and he {#blank#}1{#/blank#}in a hospital. 

From Monday to Friday, Uncle Black {#blank#}2{#/blank#}gets up at 6:00 am and then has breakfast at 6:20 am. He leaves home at seven o'clock in the morning. He lives far{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the hospital and has a car. But he likes to take the subway to go to the hospital and it takes him about forty {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Uncle Black only drives to the hospital on {#blank#}5{#/blank#} days. He sometimes goes to work by bus, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the bus ride is never boring. He can listen to music or play on the phone. 

On weekends, he likes coming to our farm to spend {#blank#}7{#/blank#} time. I always ask my uncle to teach me Chinese because he is good at {#blank#}8{#/blank#}Chinese. We sometimes pick apples{#blank#}9{#/blank#} go swimming after studying. Uncle Black always goes home on Sunday evenings. It is {#blank#}10{#/blank#}five kilometers' drive from his house to our farm.
