    If anyone can be called a scientific giant after Albert Einstein, that person must be Stephen Hawking. He was born in Oxford, England on Jan. 8th, 1942. What a pity On March 14th, 2018, the world-famous British scientist1 in Cambridge, UK.

    After leaving high school Hawking went first to Oxford University 2he studied physics and then went to Cambridge University where he studied cosmology(宇宙学). As he himself admited, he didn't work hard. And he did 3work. However, he always enjoyed thinking everything around him, especially the universe. Today, he is called the King of the Universe.

    It was at the age of 21 that Hawking first4something was wrong with him. He started to bump into some things. When he visited his family at Christmas time, his mother was so worried that she 5 him see a doctor. Hawking was sent to hospital for tests. Finally, the result came back. He6to have motor neuron disease(运动神经元病), an incurable illness which would make him unable to speak, breathe or move 7the help of a machine. Doctors said they had no ways to help him. He might die before 23.

    8, Hawking became very depressed. After a while, though, he began to see his life in a different way. As he later wrote, "After my illness was diagnosed(诊断), I was very9with life. There had not seemed to be anything worth doing. But shortly after I came out of hospital, I suddenly realized that there were a lot of worthwhile(值得做的) things I could do."     My father and I always had a bit of trouble in our relationship. It's not that we didn't love each other. It's just that we used to have 1 opinions.     Douglas was a child of unhappiness. 4 other children played together, Douglas always stood close by his teacher's side.

    His work caught the attention of his classmates. Whose hand could it be? Scone guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers raised turkeys, others guessed it was the hand of God, because God helped everyone. The discussions 6, and they even forgot to ask the artist himself.

    When the discussion stopped, the teacher asked Douglas whose hand it was. The little boy said in a low voice, "It's 7, teacher."

    She got surprised at his words. Then she 8 that she often took his hand. Sometimes she said, "Douglas, take my hand, we'll go outside." Sometimes she said, "Let me show you how to hold your pencil." And she 9 said, "Let's do this together."

    Her eyes were full of tears. She had done these to all her students. She didn't know these were so 10 to him. She hugged Douglas and decided to give him more love.

    When I had something difficult to do, I liked to ask my mother for 1. But she always said, "Do it yourself, dear." I was not happy about this at all. I thought she was the 2mother I had ever seen!

For example, one day, I decided to3some friends to my home. My bedroom was not in order. Books were4, and I didn't make the bed. I asked my mother to help me clean it, but she 5said, "Do it yourself."

    Because of my "lazy mother", I had to6my clothes and clean my room. I had to help my parents do7. I even had to go to the doctor by myself. It was really difficult for me to do a good job, but I have 8 a lot.

    As time goes by, I start to understand my mother. She made 9clever and hard-working. A 10mother is worth 100 teachers! Do you think so?
