Like any other good mother, Karen did whatever she could to help her three-year-old son, Michael, get prepared for a new baby when she found out that another baby was on the way. They 1 that the new baby was going to be a girl, and day after night, Michael sang to his 2 in Mommy's tummy(肚子）.

    Finally, Michael's little sister was born. But she was in 3  condition. The baby was sent to St. Mary's Hospital. Days went by. The doctor told the parents “There is very little 4 . Be prepared for the worst.”

    Michael kept asking his parents to let 5 see his sister. “I want to sing to her,” he said. Two weeks passed. It looked as if the worst situation would come before the week was over. Michael kept asking about singing to his sister, but kids were 6  allowed in ICU. However, Karen made up her mind that she would take Michael to see his sister who was sick.

    She7  him in an oversized scrub suit(消毒服）and went into ICU. The head nurse shouted, “Get that kid out of here now! No children are allowed.” Karen said firmly,” He is not leaving 8  he sings to his sister!” Michael was sent 9  his sister's bed. He began to sing. In the sweet 10  of a three-year-old, Michael sang: “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine; you make me happy when skies are gray...”11  the baby girl moved. The pulse rate(脉搏）became calm.

    Michael kept on 12 . “You never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away...”The breathing became smooth.

    Michael kept on singing, “The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my 13 ...”Michael's little sister relaxed.

    Michael kept on singing, “you are my sunshine, my only sunshine. Please don't take my sunshine away.”

    The next day--the very next day--the little girl was 14  enough to go home!

    The doctors just thought it a miracle(奇迹）.Karen 15  it a miracle of love!

Many people like visiting new places and seeing new things. But before taking a trip, we all have to decide who we want to travel with: is it better to go with family, with friends, or alone?

Traveling with family can be hard work and you may argue a lot. Not everyone in the family wants to do the same things. But traveling with family can be very cheap. And traveling with parents can make you feel more comfortable and relaxed. They won't let you do anything dangerous. Traveling with friends isn't usually expensive, but money always plays an important role. It's normal for everyone to have different budgets(预算) and there needs to be lots of compromise(妥协). This may cause problems. But traveling with friends can be great fun. It also helps you learn more about your friends, and sharing experiences can keep your friendship (友谊). 

When deciding who to travel with, young adults can choose to travel alone. Traveling alone has advantages. For example, you don't have to compromise on money problems. You can choose what you want to do and it can also be a good way to meet new people. However, it can be lonely and sometimes dangerous. When you're ill or having trouble, nobody will be there to help you.

Finding China's Sporting Passion

Thomas J. Scheuer from the US studies at Tsinghua University. He is also a professional(专业的) table tennis player. Why do Chinese players always dominate (占 领 先 地 位 ) the major table tennis events? Scheuer heard that one of the reasons is that there is a large fan base(基础) for the sport in the country. Almost everyone can play a little. To see whether it's true, he went to a park and visited a club to find out. The result surprised him. 

At a park in Beijing, Scheuer saw many old people playing table tennis. A man said that he had been playing the sport for more than 50 years. He plays for two hours every day. He was even named one of the "Beijing Masters" when he was 70. "I've noticed that I'm the youngest player here in the park, " said Scheuer. 

Then Scheuer visited a table tennis club. There, many kids were practising. A boy said he hoped that he could be an excellent player one day. A girl said playing table tennis helped her relax after doing schoolwork. 

The visit made Scheuer truly appreciate(欣赏) the enthusiasm (热情) that Chinese people have for table tennis. 

"Dubbed as China's 'national sport', table tennis is as popular in China as soccer and basketball are worldwide, " Scheuer said. 

 Scheuer was also impressed to find that Chinese people of all age groups take part in the sport, not just to win, but also to have fun, to socialise(交际), and to live a healthy life. Such a spirit(精神) touched him. 

I'm Alice from a small town not far away from Nanjing city, Jiangsu Province. The 1 has a population of only 3,000. I always hoped to visit Nanjing, and my dream 2 finally. 

My family went to Nanjing to visit my uncle last 3 morning. My dad drove a little 4 because we wanted to enjoy the beautiful scenery (风景) along the way. It took 5 about 2.5 hours to get to my uncle's home. My aunt and uncle made a lot of 6 food for us. It tasted very good. 

On Saturday afternoon, my cousin Betty took me to visit Nanjing University 7 underground. It was my first time to take the underground so I was a little  8 . The university is very big and beautiful. Betty 9 to study there last September. And it is my dream to study in the university 10 . Then we visited Confucius Temple (夫子庙). My uncle told me Confucius is a great thinker of ancient (古代的) China. There were many 11 coming to the temple. In the evening after dinner, we walked around the Qinhuai River. Its name was Huai River over 2, 200 years ago. It is said that the 12 was channeled (被引导) to the city of Nanjing during the reign (统治时期) of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. That's 13 it was named Qinhuai River. Its night scenery 14 so beautiful that we didn't go back home until it was very late. 

Next morning after breakfast my dad drove back to our home 15 he had to work in the afternoon. I really had a nice time in Nanjing.
