How to enjoy school

    School is a great place where you are always occupied in expanding your knowledge and further improving yourself. But School doesn't have to be a prison. Learn some concrete strategies to help you enjoy your school life, making friends and keeping it fun.

    Cheer yourself up each day. You could wake up each morning with a bad attitude and each Corning will turn into a bad day. Or you could listen to some energetic tunes, eat a breakfast to your taste and make your school day pleasant.

     If it makes you happier and more comfortable with your environment, try decorating your schoolbags, notebook, locker, and other supplies necessary' for school. Use stickers, colorful pens or other stuff to make your school things a little more fun to carry around with you.

    Join an afterschool club. It's a great way to make friends by joining a formal club or group at your school.  Check out the options offered at your school and consider joining one that lines up with your hobbies.

    Avoid distractions.  But it also risks getting you into trouble, and forcing you to fall behind when you're not paying attention. It may not seem like it, but the best way to enjoy the lessons is to listen more closely, not find ways to distract yourself.

    Do you ever feel like you read something over and over but you just can't seem to remember it?{#blank#}1{#/blank#} However, we all have to do it at some point for work or for school. Here are a few steps that will help us study more effectively and remember the information.

    1)Set a goal.

    Before you even start reading, it is important to set a goal. What do you hope you can learn by reading the material? What key points will you be required to know at a later date?{#blank#}2{#/blank#} If not, you should pay mare attention to the information you are looking for.

    2)Do the following things.

    First you need to notice the title above each section. That will tell you what the section is about.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Read the first and last sentences of each paragraph slowly and carefully and re-read them if you have to.

    3)Familiarize yourself with the material.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}So for a job, you might search online for something similar to what you are reading. For students, school websites are useful or another textbook may be able to explain words in a way that is easier to understand,

    4)Review the material

    After you have read and understood the material, review it a few times a day,{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Studies have shown that on average it takes several (anywhere from 3 to 8) times reading and reviewing a material before it becomes part of your permanent memory.

    Take part in winter activities.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If you're a beginner to these snow sports, try learning in areas where you won't be worried about more experienced people crowding you out. Local parks are ideal starting points to encourage you to get out and give new winter sports a go.

    Winter comes with the shortest days and lowest light of the year. Go out if you can. If you can't, or if you're so far from the equator as to have little or no daylight, use bright lights and perhaps light or white walls.

    Stay active.

    As much as possible, get yourself outside. Take at least a short walk. If the weather does not permit, move around inside. Walk up and down your stairs if you have them{#blank#}5{#/blank#} It also regulates such things as sleep and diet. Move around at least a bit each day.

They Just Can't Help It

    My theory is that the female brain is mainly built for empathy — the ability to understand other people — and that the male brain is mainly built for building systems. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} For example, women are more likely to read magazines on fashion and parenting, while men will choose magazines that feature computers and sport.

    You may think that these preferences are influenced by the way people are taught to behave when they are growing up. However, this is not the case. A new study carried out at Cambridge University shows that newborn girls look longer at a face, and newborn boys look longer at a mobile. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It has also been observed that girls are better at noticing signs of changes in other people's feelings. Boys, however, seem to enjoy building toy towers and playing with toys which have clear functions. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} People whose jobs are in the construction industries are almost male. Math and engineering, which require high levels of systems-thinking, are also male-chosen disciplines. Why do men and women have the difference? Actually women have four times as many brain neurons (神经) that connect the right and left part of their brains. Because of it, women have a better ability to multitask than men. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Men tend to focus on a limited number of problems at a time. They will separate themselves from problems and view tasks as independent from one another.

    Some people may worry that I am suggesting one gender (性别) is better than the other, but this is not the case. My theory says that males and females differ in the kinds of things that they find easy, but that both genders have their strengths and weaknesses. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} It is not true. The study simply looks at males and females as two groups, and asks what differences exist, and why they are there.

A. Generally speaking, there are clear differences.

B. Their preference for building systems may change over time.

C. You can see the same kind of pattern in the adult workplace.

E. It is important to stress that the female brain may be built more for empathy.

Exercise

    Exercise is a way of keeping the body healthy through being active. Another name for exercise is physical fitness. Most people exercise in their spare time. Sports are some of the most popular ways to get exercise.

    The two main kinds of exercise are aerobic exercise(有氧运动)and anaerobic exercise(无氧运动). Sports such as football and basketball are great forms of exercises. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    Aerobic exercise is energetic movement that lasts for a certain period of time.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} The lungs and the heart work harder to bring in extra oxygen. Swimming, cycling, running and rapid walking are good examples of aerobic exercise.

    Anaerobic exercise is a powerful burst of movement followed by a period of rest. During anaerobic exercise the muscles need more energy than the body can make with its supply of oxygen. After the exercise a person feels out of breath because the muscles have worked without oxygen.

    Exercise affects every part of the body in positive ways. It improves balance and coordination(协调).{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Exercise strengthens the heart and increases the lungs' ability to take in oxygen. Through exercise the bones and muscles get stronger, and the whole body becomes healthy and strong.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}People who exercise generally have a more positive, happy attitude.

B. Frequent and regular exercise helps prevent diseases.

C. Exercise also gives people a greater feeling of well-being.

How to Love Your Parents

    Even if you think that your parents are mean at times, loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life. You love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part, a source of who you are. Here are some ways to love your parents.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#}A gentle "good morning" and "I love you" will warm a coldest heart. Remember that they brought you into this world. Without your parents, we might still wander at an unknown corner in an unknown world.

    Respect them more and cherish these moments. You can use these moments to learn from them, preparing yourself for when you're off on your own. It's OK to get angry but angry actions don't help you or your parents. Act calmly, cool off, write down your feelings, or talk to a friend.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Obey their requests. It will make your attitude better and earn you more respect from them. It may seem like you are going through hell when you don't get what you want or you have to clean. However, you had better remember they are who struggle to keep a roof over your head when it's cold, raining, snowing, or too hot. Understand that parents are human beings and make mistakes.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Keep company with them. Do things with your parents together like watching TV, or go somewhere with them. Listen to their old stories and learn from them.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}And then you will find they are your teachers in one way or another.

    Some people simply may not be able to love their parents.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Seek help if you are being abused(虐待) in any way. Parents do not have a right to harm you.

C. Tell them you love them every morning.

D. After this, share your feelings with your parents.

    As is often the case, when we wake up feeling sleepy and with dark circles under eyes, many of us often make a decision: "I'm going to bed earlier tomorrow!" we are so determined. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} We are still absorbed in what we are doing without realizing it is already too late the next day. This behavior is called "bedtime procrastination" (睡眠拖延症), and results from lack of self-control and our body clock.

They delayed bedtime because they couldn't stop doing other trivial things (琐事), which were keeping them up in the first place.

    People who generally have trouble resisting temptations (诱惑) and following their intentions firmly are also more likely to delay going to bed. They find it hard to control themselves. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Our body clock also plays an important role when it comes to bedtime. Those who get up late are more likely to postpone their bedtime than those who wake early every morning. Night owls would go to bed late at the very beginning of the weekday, even though they had to get up early for work and school. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} 

    Therefore, if we want to cure our bedtime procrastination, the intention to go to bed earlier is not enough. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} We should have a clear understanding that bedtime procrastination is a big problem. The choices we make could turn out to be pretty important for our health.

A. Bedtime procrastination is a common problem.

B. It will have extreme effect on our health sooner or later.

C. Yet, lack of self-control is not the only thing to blame.

D. Unfortunately, chances are that we don't stick to our promise.

E. It's their special body clock that plays a part in delaying their bedtime.
