Bobby was getting cold sitting out in his backyard in the snow. Bobby didn't wear boots; or rather, he didn't own any. The thin sneakers he wore had a few holes in them and they did a poor job of keeping out the cold.

Bobby had been in his backyard for about an hour already. Try as he might, he could not come up with an idea for his mother's Christmas gift. He shook his head as he thought, “This is useless. Even if I do come up with an idea, I don't have any money for a gift.”

Wiping tears from his eyes, Bobby started walking down to the street where the shops were. It wasn't easy being six without a father, particularly when he needed a man to talk to.

Bobby walked from shop to shop, looking into each decorated window. Everything seemed so beautiful but so out of reach. It was starting to get dark and Bobby reluctantly turned to walk home when suddenly his eyes caught the glimmer (激光)of the setting sun's rays reflecting on something on the roadside. He reached down and discovered a shiny dime (一角硬币).

Never before has anyone felt as wealthy as Bobby did at that moment. As lie held his newly-found treasure, warmth spread throughout his entire body and he walked into the first store. His excitement quickly turned cold when salesperson after salesperson told him that he could not buy anything with only a dime.

He saw a flower shop and went inside to wait in line. When the shop owner asked if he could help him, Bobby presented the dime and asked if he could buy one flower for his mother's Christmas gift. The shop owner looked at Bobby and his one dime offering. Then he put his hand on Bobby's shoulder, saying, “You just wait here and I'll see what I can do for you.” As Bobby waited, he looked at the beautiful flowers and even though he was a boy, he could see why mothers and girls loved flowers.

The eightyearold Carol lived with her father David, mother May and elder brother Rob. The little family happily lived in a beautiful village surrounded with beautiful_nature. The village was at the foot of a mountain, with beautiful views of the snowy mountain. The family survived on growing seasonal plants and trees. Their life is totally surrounded by nature and beauty.

While they lived a very happy life, Carol did not love the beautiful atmosphere of the village.

She really wanted to move into the city and enjoy the city life. She wanted to shop, move around the city, watch movies, _and eat in fantastic restaurants and cafes, etc.

However, there was hardly any chance that Carol's family moved to the city as they had everything in the village.

One day, Carol fell asleep during the early noon and she had a sound sleep. Of course, she had a strange dream. She saw her grandmother in her dream as a fairy and her deceased grandmother granted her a wish. Carol requested her that she should love to enjoy the city life as she always desired.

Grandmother understood the desire of Carol, but still wanted to convince her that the peaceful village life is better than the city life.

She told Carol, "Baby, you cannot have access to fresh fruits and vegetables from plants as you have at your home. You cannot breathe fresh air. You cannot play with animals. You can hardly find any trees. You will not find peace as you see here! Do you still want to go to the city?"

Without hearing the concerns, Carol asked her grandmother to grant the wish. Grandmother granted her wish, but with a condition. Carol was told that she would only have 6 hours to spend in the city. Later, she would return to the village. Carol agreed.

One day, my nine-year-old younger brother Jeff came home from school earlier than me. When I returned home, I found he was shouting at our mom—who was busy cooking in the kitchen—about the clothes that needed washing.

"Mom, why haven't you washed my clothes?" he asked, pointing at the dirty clothes he had taken off two days before. "I want to wear them tomorrow," Jeff added. However, the clothes that he was wearing still looked clean. "Dear, I'll wash it after cooking," Mom told Jeff, looking anxious and upset. Without replying, Jeff unhappily went to his bedroom and closed the door, with a long face.

I was shocked about Jeff's bad behavior towards Mom. How unsympathetic he was! Our washing machine had been out of order for two months. Because our parents were on a tight budget and were too busy, they still didn't buy a new one. So recently our family had to wash our clothes by hand, which was time-wasting and truly hard work.

Just when I decided to scold(训斥)my little brother, Dad came home from work, and I told him what had happened.

Dad was upset and felt sorry for Mom, knowing how hard she worked all day. She was a saleswoman in a supermarket and did all she could to support our family. Often, Dad tried to help with some of the housework. He didn't want Mom to have too much burden, knowing her heavy work as a saleswoman. I also tried to spare time to help do housework, sharing some of the family burden. However, Jeff was a lazy and naughty(淘气)boy, who hardly did housework.

Now, our dad decided it was high time to teach him a lesson. "Jeff, come here," Dad called out. "I've some good news for you. " Jeff immediately came and asked excitedly, "What, Dad?" "Your mom and I are too busy recently. Tonight, I want you to wash your own clothes,"Dad smiled. Jeff immediately refused, shaking his head.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

"Then, you won't get your pocket money next week. I'm serious," Dad replied.

At 9 pm, Jeff was still struggling to rinse(漂洗)the clothes, realizing the work wasn't easy at all.
