"Look. The potato was hard before I boiled it, but now, it is 6 and weak. The egg was fragile (易碎的) until I put it in the water—now, it is hard inside. But the coffee beans were different. When they met the boiling water, they changed and became delicious 7."

A: Mr. Liu, can I ask you some questions about Mars?
B: Sure, go ahead.
A: Is Mars hot?
B: Mars might look red-hot. But don't let its color fool you. Mars is much farther away from the sun than Earth. So it gets less light and heat.
A: Why "Mars"?
B: Mars takes its name from the Roman god of war (罗马战神). In China, the red color makes people think of fire. So they call the planet "fire star".
A: Are there Martians on Mars?
B: Unluckily, we haven't found any "people" on Mars yet. They are kind of like Santa Clause. Nobody can see them, but many people believe they are real.
A: Will we lose weight on Mars?
B: Living on Mars could be good in many ways. For example, you might not need to go on a diet to lose weight. If you weigh 50kg on Earth, you will only weigh 19kg on Mars. This is because the surface gravity (表面重力) on Mars is only about 38 percent of that on Earth. Do you want to know your weight on Mars? Just multiply your weight by 0.38. That's it.
A: Thank you. We know a lot about Mars now.
B: You're welcome.
Feet are an important part of you. Without them, you couldn't stand up, walk or run around. Your feet work so hard that sometimes they get sweaty (出汗).
Think of a hot summer day when you have been walking around all afternoon. Your feet have been in those trainers for a long time! The moment you take off your shoes, you feel good and relaxed, but your feet smell bad. You may think it is because of the sweat. But in fact, sweat itself has no smell. It's the bacteria (细菌) on your skin (皮肤) that mix with it and gives off a bad smell.
Bacteria love dark and wet places like the inside of sweaty shoes. The sweatier you get, the more bacteria there will be. When you wear your shoes, bacteria will have a good meal on your feet. They eat dead skin cells from your skin and then leave a kind of waste called organic acids (有机酸). These organic acids smell bad. Things will become better if you wear cotton socks.
Two men were travelling together through the forest on a lonely path. Before the travelling, they said they would help each other when there was danger. They had not gone far when a bear rushed towards them from some bushes.
One man was a good climber, and quickly climbed up a nearby tree. The other man tried to climb the tree but failed. Looking at his friend in the tree, he shouted loudly for help. The man in the tree was afraid that his friend under the tree would pull him down, so he didn't give his friend a hand.
The man under the tree, seeing that he had no chance alone against the bear, fell to the ground and pretended to be dead. The bear came nearer and nearer. It made his blood run cold.
The bear came to him, lowered its great head, smelled him all over and touched him with its nose. The bear thought the man was dead, so it went off into the forest again without hurting him. After the bear left, the other man came down from the tree, and smilingly asked his friend what the bear had said to him. "For I could see," he said, "that he put his mouth close to your ear."
"He told me to tell you," replied the other, "that you were a great coward(懦夫), and that it is dangerous to travel with a friend who leaves you behind when there is danger."

Dear humans,
It's the first time I write to you, my Children. I sent you many messages in the past, but you didn't take them seriously. So I decide to write you a letter.
First, let me tell you more about our family. Dear humans, besides you, I have many other children. Some of them fly in the sky; some of them swim in the water; some live in ice-covered places; some run in the grasslands.
They might be very close to you, or even live in your house. But there are others that you may never have the chance to meet.
You bring them home to be your pets, friends and helpers. You put them in the zoos. You kill them for their meat and fur. And you even hunt them for fun. They bring you money and happiness, but they also bring you illness and death.
I hope you remember that wild animals are not your food, clothes or furniture. They are not killers, either. They are, in fact, your brothers and sisters. You should grow up together. I'm worried that one day you will be lonely if you keep killing them.
So, grow up, humans. Grow up to be more loving and caring. I hope you and all the wildlife can live happily in my arms.
Yours,
Mother Earth
