Be careful with swabs It's bad to clean your ears with cotton swabs. Recently, a woman in Australia got an ear infection after using the swabs. Doctors say cotton swabs can push earwax back into the ear. Also, the swabs can hurt your ears and cause ear infections. If you want to use cotton swabs, use them only on the outside of your ear. If you want to clean your ears you can go to your doctor or wipe the outside of your ear with a soft and wet cloth. |
How do people find their inner talent? British author and speaker Sir Kenneth Robinson talked about this at TED. He told the story of Gillian Lynne, a dancer and a choreographer who has worked on famous musicals like Cats ad Phantom of the Opera.
Gillian Lynne never did well in school as a child. She couldn't concentrate and often found herself moving restlessly. Her mother was quite worried about her. She took Lynne to a doctor. For 20 minutes, she talked about the problems Lynne was having in school. Then, the doctor said to Lynne," I need to speak to your mother first. Wait here."
As they left the room, the doctor turned on the radio. He then said to Lynne's mother," Just stand and watch her. The minute they left the room, Lynne was on her feet, dancing to the music on the radio.
The doctor then turned to Lynne's mother and said, "Mrs. Lynne, your daughter isn't sick. She's a dancer. Take her to a dance school."
So she did. Lynne's new dance school was full of people just like her-people who had to move in order to think. Lynne later went to the Royal Ballet School, one of the world's greatest dance schools, and became a great dancer.
After leaving the school, she worked on some of the most successful musicals in history. It is hard to believe that years ago, somebody else would just put her on medication and tell her to calm down.

It's late at night. A car stops in the middle of a forest. After dropping off their three teenagers, the parents say" good luck" and drive away.
It may sound crazy to you, but this is a time-honored tradition in the Netherlands called "dropping". Dutch people believe that children should not depend too much on their parents and should learn how to solve problems through activities like "dropping".
However, for many other parents around the world, their top concern is their children's safety.
People have many different opinions about parenting In China, for example, many parents spend anywhere from 20, 000 to 50,000 yuan on summer vacation activities for their children, according to NetEase.
But some parents try too hard and become "helicopter parents", which is basically the opposite of "dropping". They worry too much about their children and pay attention to everything they do-like helicopters flying over their children. In their eyes, children need to be protected all the time.
But this might not be a good parenting style either, according to American parenting expert Kenneth Ginsburg .
A. Good parents need to find a balance between protecting their children and letting go.
B. After all, why should they put their children at risk when there are many other ways to nurture their independence?
C. The teenagers, totally lost, have to find their way back home by themselves.
D. They want their children to enjoy their vacation as much as possible.
E. All parents want their children to be happy, healthy and successful.
I'm Wang Jing, from Handan, Hubei Province. My daughter is 6 years old. I let her take two courses. One was traditional Chinesedance; the other was child modeling. She quickly1thelatter.
Luckily, she has a gift for catwalk, and wonthird place in a2competition in July. I let her take theseclasses because when she was very young, she was pigeon-toed and I wanted to3it.
At first, her grandmother disagreed with4becauseshe didn't want her granddaughter to become a model. I persuaded her by saying thatLi Hanghui (my daughter) won't become a model, and the classes will make her more5.
Before, Hanghui was too6totake the subway because she would have to meet so many people.7takingthe classes for more than a year, I noticed her progress. She was not so shy andshe dared speak with strangers. Even on the T-stage, she can8herself.So applying for model classes was the correct9forher.
I have read reports about child models workingall day to make money, and they have lost their innocence. I don't feel worriedabout this, because Hanghui knows the10between performance and reallife. On the stage, she is11and cool, but after classes or a performance, she becomes a lively, playful12again. If she has a chance to be aTaobaoor T-stage show model, I won't refuse the13for her. I will support herto do these jobs in her spare time if she wants. However, if it gets in the wayof her schoolwork, I won't14it.
Throughout her life, I will respect her choicesand her talent. If, in the future, she has a (n)15in,let's say, physics or English, I will support her as well.
