There were smiling children all the way. Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. These are the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.
I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not particularly (特别) relish the long train journey and had bought along a dozen magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There was not one familiar (熟悉的) face. I sighed and sat down to read my Economics.
It was not long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johor Bahru was just another city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight. Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.
From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.
The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3: 00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug. I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.
I looked forward to the return journey.
Summer is all about the sun, fun and beach parties. It's a time when you have a chance to relax and forget about college. Summer is also a great season to start looking for your dream job.
Discover your skills and talents. Many people look for a job without knowing what talents they have and what skills they can offer their employers (雇主). If you don't know what skills you can offer your possible employer yet, try to discover them. Even if you don't have a lot of experience, when you are sure you can do something pretty well, believe in yourself.
Use your connections. Whatever your connections, consider them when you are looking for your summer job. This way, you can find your job faster and be sure that you'll get your paycheck on time. If you don't have any connections, don't worry. I got my job without them, though it was a bit tough.
Keep it short. When writing your resume (个人简历), make sure it's not too long. Don't lie about your skills. Adding in a degree you never completed or a skill you know you won't be able to get in a week is a certain way to fail.
Be friendly. A positive attitude is the key to success. When you look friendly and you are actually friendly, the others notice that. Most employers say that it's always better to hire a positive beginner than a negative professional. When going to a job interview, forget all your problems and focus on the positive things to make a good first impression.

When I was 25 years old, I had a big dream in my mind. I wanted to travel around Africa with my 1. So I left my hometown with great confidence and 2 in Cape Town, not really sure what to do next. 3, before my trip actually started, I 4 a kind, old Nigerian man. He gave me the best travel 5 I had ever received: “BE LIKE A STUDENT ON YOUR WAY AROUND THE WORLD.”
It sounded 6, but it really changed my idea about traveling. He helped me 7 that travel is about learning and observing 8. It's far too easy to go into a (n) 9 country and believe your ways are better.
“But if you study, ask questions, and try to 10 the locals, you'll have far richer 11,” he promised me.
When I was on my tour way to Cancún, I was 12 a tourist. I only stayed there for a week to see the 13 and places of interest and then left. The culture didn't 14 me. I left the cities and towns without really 15 anyone or anything that existed in those places to which I had 16 a visit.
This time, I made a promise to myself that I would be a 17 traveler. After seven months of 18 backpacking in Africa from Cape Town to Cairo, I realized that having a student-like mindset (思维模式) helped 19 my trip and helped me learn a lot, which 20 me more than any other trips ever did to me.
There are many things in Chengdu that attract people. But for tourists like me, pandas are its top (attract).
So it was a great honour for me (invite) to the not-for-profit Panda Base, where ticket money helps pay for research. I (allow) to get up close to these cute animals at the 600-acre center. From tomorrow, I will be their UK ambassador (大使). The title will be (official) given to me at a ceremony in London. But my connection with pandas goes back my days on a TV show in the mid-1980s, I was the first Western TV reporter permitted to film a special unit caring for pandas (save) from starvation (饿死) in the wild. My duties will include (introduce) British visitors to the 120-plus pandas in Chengdu and others at a research center in the misty mountains of Bifengxia.
During my recent visit, I held a lively three-month-old twin that had been refused by his mother. The nursery team switches (交换)him every few (day) with his sister so that while one is being bottle-fed, other is with their mum —she never doubts.
The train is the easiest and most eco-friendly way to get around in the world. Trains allow you to travel in safety and comfort. (代替) flying over the sights or (疲惫不堪的) while driving, trains provide you with a more pleasant view along the way. In addition, passengers (被允许四处走动) from one carriage (客车厢)to another on a train, which (使旅行更舒适). Cell phones are also permitted. What's more, trains are very cheap (与……相比)other means of transport. It may also be a wise choice, especially for families with children, who are usually fascinated by trains. Some people think trains are slow, but (事实是) trains travel fast, too. The bullet train can travel very fast, (以……速度) over 350 kilometers per hour, and (使用更少的能源). I still remember (我第一次参观北京).
