Joseph is a teacher in New York. He gives lessons to (he) students about American history. But he was born Kenya, an African country where the children lead a very different life. For example, a ten-year-old boy may spend (much) time in taking care of cows than studying at school. The children also learn many (skill) like how to live in the wild.
Unlike many other children, Joseph went to school. And (lucky), when he was 15, he came (study) in America and then became a teacher. Joseph has written
book called Facing the Lion. In the book, he talks about his childhood. He thinks is very important for American children to learn about the cultural differences between their country the others. He also thinks children should learn to be strong and full of hope. Now Joseph (do)a project, hoping that it will help children face their own" lions".
My parents turned my whole world upside down when they told me they were getting a divorce (离婚). I couldn't 1 our family was going to break up.
It changed my life completely. My mother and I moved 2 a small apartment (公寓) across town, 3 my father and brother, Bill, remained in our house.
And very soon I had my soon-to-be stepfather (继父), Dan. Although I wasn't very nice to him, he 4 gave up on me.
As time went on, I realized that we had some things in 5, especially when it came to movies and TV shows. We began to spend a lot of time together6 out. It gave us a chance to talk 7 get to know each other.
8 still, Dan was always around when I needed help on school or friends. Once I grew to warm to Dan, the 9 of us began spending a lot of time together. We often went out to eat and took short trips. Eventually (最后), I discovered I had the 10 family that I had never had before.
My father found happiness, 11 he remarried and had 12 child, my half-sister, Michelle. 13 13, I learned an important truth—14 is not always for the worse. Sometimes, it is just something 15 we need the most. We should learn to accept it bravely.
My name is Wei Hua and I'm a sporting robot of the 23rd century. I'm clever at high flying exercises. I jump from spaceships and as I fall, I turn, dive, circle and dance until I softly land as close as I can to the finishing line.
Robot competitions in the 23rd century are truly a popular sport. Fans from all over China watch their hand-held TVs when a competition comes on. Last time I took part in the 78th Olympics and I won the silver medal for my performance.
This year I was very proud to be chosen again. I wanted to meet robots from other countries and explore ideas about our sport. However, my programmer fell ill the week before we were leaving. It was very painful for her and I felt very scared. I didn't feel so confident that I would win.
The day of the competition was rather cold for my legs and my special oil began to freeze. I stopped for a moment(which I shouldn't)before I jumped from the starting place on a little spaceship, then I began my performance. At the correct moment I tried to open my parachute(降落伞)but there was a problem. It only opened a little. I began to fall faster and faster so that I could not turn, dive, circle or dance. My heart stopped beating as I landed heavily on a mountain covered with snow.
This is why I am writing to you from my hospital bed with two broken legs and a weak head. I did not win anything at the Olympics after all. I need the factory to build me two new legs and an even bigger head. Then I will be able to compete once more. Let's hope for greater success in the next Olympics!
