What can one dollar help us with? Believe it or not, an 18-year-old American girl in Florida, got a lot of money with only one dollar.
Not long ago, the girl named Daniela Leon Ruz used one dollar to buy a lottery ticket (彩票) called ¥500 A Week For Life. Usually in this game the odds (可能性) of winning the top prize are one-in-six million. But to her surprise, she was lucky to win such a top prize just after buying the lottery once. She spent only one dollar!
However, she didn't take the whole prize at a time. She chose to take ¥26000 each year. It was an advisable idea and some lottery experts thought this way would help her get a better use of the money.
What will Daniela do with the money? Maybe she'll follow another girl named Rosa Dominguez from California who ever won the prize twice in a month and buy some more lottery tickets. Or she might use the money to travel around the world or do something interesting. Anyway, she must be happy and excited about all her plans!

③ I can set the table. I can sweep the floor. I can wash my clothes And count to forty-four. I can wash dishes And clean my bedroom. There is so much I can do. Now ask you. |
What is small talk? It means that the conversation is about some little things, which are not important. You can make small talk when waiting in line in the supermarket, or while waiting for the bus. Though the topics in small talk are not important, the small talk itself is very important. It makes other people feel relaxed; it breaks the silence; it shows friendliness and good manners, and it makes time pass pleasantly.
In small talk, it is important to remember to smile and keep the conversation relaxed. It's also good to show a sense of humor. You could talk about the weather, an interesting story in the news or on television, a sports event, a play or movie, or you could ask parents about their children.
What shouldn't you talk about? You should try not to talk about politics or religion. Also, you should try not to talk too long on a subject or ask questions that are too personal. Give other people a chance to speak and listen to what they say. If you two have different opinions on a topic, change it.
A poor boy lived in a small town. He sold goods from door to door to pay for school.
One day, he only had one cent left and he was hungry. He decided that he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, when a young woman opened the door, the boy was shy, he just asked for some water. The woman knew he was hungry, so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked. "How much should I pay for it?" "You won't pay for it. My mother has told me that it is good to help the people who are in trouble," she replied. The boy said, "Then I thank you from my heart."
As the boy left that house, he felt stronger. He knew he had many things to do.
Many years later, the young woman became ill. The local doctors couldn't save her. People had to send her to a big city. When the doctor knew who the woman was, he was excited and tried his best to save her life. He succeeded. The woman needed to pay for the medical bill. The doctor learned that she couldn't afford it. So he wrote something down on the medical bill. The woman read the bill, "you have paid it with a glass of milk."
Good communication skills are keys to success in life and work. To communicate well is to understand and to be understood.
In today's highly informational and technological environment, it has become more important to have good communication skills. Here are some important steps to communicate effectively (有效地).
Know what you want to say and why. Understand clearly the purpose of your message, Know with whom you are communicating and why.
How will you say it? We all know that it's not always what you say, but how you say it, that matters. Begin by making eye contact (接触). You show confidence when you look at others in the eyes when you speak. Second, notice your body language, because it can say so much more than your words.
By standing with your arms easily at your side, you tell others that you are open to hearing what they have to say.
Communication is a two-way street. After you have said what you have to say, stop and listen. It's also necessary for you to learn some listening skills.
