Today is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} and hot. The temperature(温度) is about 39.5℃.My friends and I {#blank#}2{#/blank#}to the beach because we think it's an {#blank#}3{#/blank#} place in summer. There are lots of people on the beach. They {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a great time. Look at those people over there. They are {#blank#}5{#/blank#} beach volleyball. Some boys are lying(躺) {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the beach and talking. They are very {#blank#}7{#/blank#}. Look at that woman. She {#blank#}8{#/blank#} photos. Her camera is new. There are also many people swimming {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the sea, and they look very happy. We want {#blank#}10{#/blank#}, too.

Our family had lived in Los Angeles for two weeks. "LA is not a bad place, Sonny." Dad said. But I didn't like the city. I missed* Michigan. I missed my old friends and even the trees there.

That afternoon, I went out to find a basketball court*. Dad said there was one around, but it was twenty-minutes' walk away! When I got there, I saw three children playing some kind of one-on-one*. Two of them were taller than me, and one was about my size.

The short boy played well, but the other two were too tall for him. One-on-one wasn't his game. He needed someone to pass to. I went down to the other basket and played alone. Then I heard someone calling me. It was the short boy.

"I'm Louie. Are you coming to join us? Small against* tall."

"Sounds good." I thought for some time. "I'm Sonny."

Louie introduced the other two boys. They were Chuck and David. We nodded to each other and started the game. Like I said, Louie really was a good player. He just needed someone to pass to. Soon, Chuck and David found    ▲   . The score was always close. Both teams had to try our best. In the end, Louie and I didn't win the game, but we made it interesting.

A little later, I saw Dad come. I said goodbye to them.

"Coming back tomorrow?" asked Louie.

"Yeah."

The sun was going down behind pink and orange clouds. On the way back home, Dad said, "Who said Los Angeles doesn't have great sunsets*?"

"LA is not a bad place." I said. Now, it could be home.

Last year my dad got a new job in a small town,1 my family moved there. On my first 2 at the new school I was really worried. The teachers were friendly, but the 3 was the other students. They didn't seem friendly. I knew nobody and I couldn't 4 understand what they said. 

 During the break all the other students went out. I didn't know where to go, so I 5 in the classroom. After a while, a 6 came back in and came up to me. I 7 what he wanted to do. He took 8 out of his bag and said to me, "Would you like something to 9 ?"It was an apple. Suddenly I felt really 10 and we began to talk. 

 It was Tony who gave me the apple and now he is my best friend. I am thankful to the apple, which started our friendship. 

I was always busy with work and travel. I didn't think I would have 1 or energy to care for a pet. But everything changed when I met Kitty.

Kitty was a homeless cat that I found on the street one 2 night. She was wet, hungry and frightened, and she looked at me as if she was begging (祈求) for 3 . So I decided to take her to my 4 .

At first, Kitty was 5 and nervous. She hid under the sofa and only came out when I offered her food and water. She didn't like to be 6 or held, and she would scratch (绕) me if I tried to pet her. I wondered if she would ever 7 me or love me.

But as time went by. Kitty started to warm up to me. She began to 8 me around the house, and sit next to me on the sofa or the bed. She would play 9 with the toys I bought her and would wait for me at the door when I came home from work.

Kitty 10 my life for the better. She made me feel more relaxed. She taught me how to be more patient and caring.

I'm living in a small village in the countryside. My wife and I run(经营) a cake shop. We live a very peaceful life. Someone might say our simple life is boring. But we love it. We know all the people in the village. I have much time for my hobbies-- gardening, fishing and walking in the countryside. I love the outdoor activities.

 Three years ago, in 2020, I had a really terrible job in a company. I used to work very late in the office from Monday to Thursday. Usually I went home the latest on Thursdays. Luckily I could go home early on Fridays, but I had to bring work home on weekends. Because of the job, I used to smoke and drink too much.

 One day, my wife, a P. E. teacher, decided to leave me. She complained(抱怨) that she seldom saw me. She also said that I had become not humorous but serious since having the job. This made me realize what was really important to me. We talked and decided to start a new and happy life together. Last year,I gave up the job. Of course, I also gave up smoking and drinking and took up new hobbies.
