David Strayer never texts or talks on a phone when he is driving. Strayer is a famous psychologist (心理学家) at the University of Utah. His research shows that, when driving using a phone can be as dangerous as drinking wine.

Strayer and other scientists warn against multitasking (多任务处理). When we do many things at the same time, Strayer says our brain becomes tired easily. So we may make mistakes and lose attention.When we spend hours on digital devices like videos and computers, our productivity reduces. Too much multitasking reduces our ability to think clearly and creatively. This can result in stress (压力).

What is the best way to help us lower too much stress? David Strayer says the answer is simple: Spend some time in nature.

Strayer and other scientists are studying nature's effect on our brains and bodies. When we are in natural environment, the brain's control center relaxes. Studies show that when people can see trees and grass, they do better on different tasks.

Other psychologists are also studying "nature therapy (疗法) ". In a study at Chiba University in Japan, a researcher named Yoshifumi Miyazaki found that forest walkers did better than the city walkers. He has an explanation for these results. "Our bodies relax in the natural environment," he says. "Humans evolved (进化) in that environment, not in places with tall buildings and lots of traffic. This allows our brains to rest and recover from the stresses of city life. Imagine a therapy that could improve your cognitive (认知的) ability at zero cost. Why not try it at once?

We can learn by listening to the teacher in class, but is this the only way for students to learn? Of course not. There is another way to learn. That is students can teach themselves. For example, if you can't remember things when you are doing homework, you can look through your book to find the answer. This is a way to teach yourself. And it is not a difficult thing. We can do this at any place and at any time.

How do you teach yourself? The first thing you must do is reading. Read something you like, or you have to read. The second is that you must ask yourself questions. A clever student is usually good at asking questions. The third is to answer the questions yourself by thinking hard, reading the text or other books, or asking other people. These are ways of teaching yourself. And if you do like this for a long time, I'm sure you'll succeed in your study.

 The Lisu's Kuoshi Festival(傈傈族阔时节) is one of the most fantastic ethnic (民族的) festivals in Yunnan province. Kuoshi is local Lisu language, which means New Year. It usually falls between the last ten- day period of December and January of the next year. People often get together to celebrate the coming new year!

 In the morning, the breathtaking " Climbing Ladder of Knives" starts the celebration. The well- trained barefoot Lisu man climb up a 20- meter- high ladder made of 36 sharpened knives. Those who climb the ladder are called " Nipa", which means wizard(巫婆). They are also regarded as heroes in their village. At the top of the ladder, Nipas perform some extremely difficult activities and win warm applause (掌声) from the audience.

 In the afternoon, the organizers ho id some wonderful competitions and ceremonies for festival- goers, including bamboo- pole climbing, horse- riding, crossbow shooting. People from different age groups enthusiastically join in the competitions, showing their special skills to other people.

 In the evening, there are also various exciting activities. The villagers get together around the fire, enjoying homemade rice wine, performing their folk songs and dances. The celebration often reaches almost the whole night.

 Kuoshi Festival is an ethnic carnival when the Lisu people throw themselves in joyful celebration. The exciting and wonderful activities show the colorful lifestyle, bravery and enthusiasm of the Lisu ethnic.

For his eleventh birthday, Tom was given a gift that would shape his life. On that day his father took him to the Children's Activity Centre and said he could choose any course（课程） that interested him. There was just one requirement (要求): Tom would have to promise（承诺） to study it for at least one year. 

Tom had many hobbies, but none kept his interest for more than a week or two. His mum once gave him a bag of stamps to encourage stamp collecting. That hobby lasted a week. Then his father got him some paints hoping that Tom's artistic side would shine through. Those paints were now under his bed, still unopened. This time Tom's parents would let him decide. 

Tom's eyes moved down the noticeboard that listed (列出) all the courses on offer. He stopped at "Photography". He liked the idea of taking beautiful pictures but the notice said that each student needed their own camera. Although Tom's family weren't poor, they weren't rich either, and a camera cost a lot of money. He continued looking. 

The next course to catch his eye was "Language Art". He didn't even know what that meant. His father explained that it taught people how to make public speeches（演讲）. Tom, a shy boy, could think of nothing worse. Then he saw "cooking", which sounded like something he'd like to do. It was inexpensive and convenient(方便的). It could be done alone and it was also creative. 

Based on（基于） Tom's hobby history, his dad had doubts (怀疑), but he agreed. Much to his parents' surprise, he practiced at home and made delicious meals for his family. Everyone looked forward to birthdays, when they could eat his cakes. Tom got great satisfaction from the pleasure his food brought to others. 

The months turned to years but his hobby never changed again. Now Tom is an adult and runs a successful restaurant. When customers（顾客） say they enjoy his meal, he still gets the same pleasure he did as a child, and remembers the special gift he received all those years ago. 

①As a kind of traditional Chinese art, paper cutting has a long history. The first and earliest paper cutting was found in China about 1,500 years ago. But the traditional art is at risk of disappearing （消失） now. Luckily, Voyo Woo, a Chinese immigrant （移民）, is trying to bring the art back to life.

②Ms Woo began to study paper cutting as a 14-year-old girl in her hometown in China. She said all the students at school had to learn paper cutting. But she had a deep love for it. So her teacher spent more time teaching her after class. Later, she won second prize in a national painting and calligraphy （书法） competition. Ms Woo went to America after she finished college in 2008. Soon after that, she took part in an activity to promote Chinese paper cutting. And then she was invited to show the art in many important activities. "It is important to promote the art to Americans or anyone who is interested in it. Maybe it will make the art more popular." Woo said.

③From paper cutting, people can know about Chinese cultural values, history and stories of people's life. Ms Woo uses the art as a tool to show Chinese culture to the people who know little about it. Chinese art is not only for Chinese, but also for people all over the world.

 Zheng Qinwen, 21, won China's first Olympic gold medal in the tennis singles at the Paris Olympics on Aug 3rd. 

"Nothing can describe my feeling right now. It's unreal. I' ve always been hoping to get a medal for China. Finally, I made it. " Zheng said after she won. 

 From 2020 to 2024, Zheng's world ranking(排名) jumped from over 600 to No. 7. Years of competitions taught her to play with patience and control her energy in matches. Her performance has won her the title of"Queen Wen" among fans. 

"I love my fans for giving me this title, honestly, because it fits my character well. You need to show yourself as a queen of the court, because you need this energy, this power to show that you are the best. " Zheng told China Daily. 

Playing for China at the Olympics gave Zheng power. She made her way to success after getting through tiring matches that went on for three hours. 

"What I can be sure is that I'm going to fight until the last moment, because I'm not only playing for myself. I'm playing for my country. " Zheng told China Daily. 

 This great success is just the start of a new journey for Zheng. Just a few days after her Olympic victory, she took part in the Cincinnati Open but lost to a Russian player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova ina third-round match. 

"I was proud to win the Olympic gold medal, but it's time to forget it and start over again. If I think too much about my past success, I won't play my next match well. " Zheng told CCTV.
