Although I'm not in my childhood, I still prefer reading fairy tales(童话).They often make me think of some special experiences and feelings. This summer I've reviewed The Little Prince. It was first published in 1943.It's a worldfamous fairy tale written by the French author Antoine.

"I", the narrator(讲述者) of the story, is a pilot. His plane has something wrong and lands in the Sahara. The little prince lives on a small planet, and he grows a flower called ROSE there. One day they have a quarrel(争吵), so the little prince runs away. On his all alone journey, he meets different kinds of people. From these people he gets a conclusion(结论) that grownups are strange. And with the help of the man he meets, he descends in the Sahara. This book moves me a lot. It is not only a fairy tale for children and teenagers, but also for grownups.

    There is not enough oil in the world now. As time goes by, it becomes less and less, so what are we going to do when it runs out? Perhaps we will go back to using horses, carriages and bicycles.
    In the Second World War, some people didn't use gas made from petroleum(石油) in their cars. They made gas from wood and plants instead. The car didn't go fast, but they ran, so this was better than nothing. However, in the future, we can't cut down all our trees to make gas; we need our trees for other things, too.
    Besides different types of gas, we can also use electricity(电) to run our cars, but first we must make the electricity! Some countries have coal(煤) and they make electricity with that, but we might not always have coal, either. Other countries have big, strong rivers, and they can use the power of water to turn turbines(涡轮机) and make electricity more easily and cheaply.
    We are also able to get power from the ocean tides. We put turbines into the mouth of the river. Then the tide comes in, the water turns the turbines and then it goes out, it turns them again.

Everything has a name. All people, places and things have names.Cities and towns have names,too.Schools and office buildings also have names. Names are important.
We use names every day.When we meet a new person, we usually ask”What's your name?” It's important to learn a person's name. Most people have two names. Some have more names. Names are different all over the world, so it is very difficult to remember (记住)all of them.
In the USA, most people have a first name, a middle name and a last name. Parents choose the first name and middle names for their babies.There are names for boys and names for girls. For example, John, Peter, Tom and Mike are all names for boys, Elizabeth, Bonnie, Susan and Mary are all girls' names. The last name is the family name. Usually it is the father's family name.

      In Germany there are different kinds of high schools. Some prepare students for workers, others prepare them for college. All schools are great places for making friends and learning German.
Short days
      Most high schools in Germany begin at about 8:00 a.m. and end at about 3:30 p.m. This means your morning will be busy with classes. You will have time to do homework and take part in private(私人的) clubs after school.
Formal setting
     In Germany, teachers and students' relationship is more formal than you might be used to. Teachers are respected and students must use the formal “Sie（德语，您）” when talking to teachers.
Getting to school
      Most students take public transport to school or ride a bicycle. Some areas have school buses. It is not common for parents to drive students to school.
Private clubs
      In many countries, schools offer official sports and after-school activities. This is less common in Germany. After-school activities are usually organized through private clubs. There are clubs for things like soccer, dance, choir, theatre and almost everything else. Once you are in Germany, ask around at school and talk to other students to find out what private clubs are in your area and meet your interests.
Different states, different schools
     Each of Germany's 16 states has its own slightly different school systems. The school system in Brandenburg will be a little different from the system in Bavaria for example. Where you live, your knowledge level and your age will decide what school you can attend.

    At this moment in different places of the world people are doing different things.
    In Beijing it's early morning. People are sleeping.
    In London people are leaving work to go home. They are waiting for buses or running for trains. Some people are driving their cars. Some are having afternoon tea at home or walking to the pubs（酒吧）to have a drink.
    In Moscow（莫斯科）it's evening and people are having supper at home or in restaurants. Some are going to watch a ballet（芭蕾舞）. Some are drinking in the pubs.
    In Los Angeles（洛杉矶）it's morning. People are working in their offices. Children are starting their lessons.
    New York is midday now. People aren't working but having lunch. They are eating hamburgers or hot dogs and drinking coffee or Coke. Some people are seeing friends or shopping.

Do you know what couch-potato means? Well, in America, the word is now often used. The American couch-potato becomes maybe even a part of American tradition. You see, in America, many people often spend their free time sitting on a couch（沙发）watching TV. As there are many programs to choose, the TV can be quite interesting and very addictive（上瘾的）. One may sit and watch TV for hour and hour without stop. They do nothing else but watch TV. These people are called couch-potatoes.

In America, when one watches TV, he is most often sitting on a couch. While watching TV, most of these people look so frozen that they almost look dead. Everyone is sitting still（安静地） with eyes looking right into the same black box. Also because these people are addictive to TV, they don't exercise and usually get very fat. So in many ways, they look like real potatoes. Well, because they look so still and fat, and watch TV on a couch, they are all called couch-potatoes.

Now you know what couch-potatoes means. The next time if you see someone watching TV too long, just say, "What a couch-potato!"
