In classes, your teachers will talk about topic that you are studying. The information they provide will be important for you to know when you take tests. So you must be able to take good written notes from what your teachers say.

   Here are the three stages(阶段) of taking notes and what you should do during each stage.

   1. Before Class Review your notes you have taken before you come to class. This will be good for remembering what was covered. Get you ready to understand new information your teacher will provide.

   2. During Class Keep your attention on what your teacher is saying and „the signal words that tell you what your teacher is going to say and it is important to write in your notes. Examples of signal words are „The most important point…and „Remember that… Be sure to include in your notes information that your teacher repeats or writes on the blackboard. Write quickly so that you can include all the important information in your notes. Do this by writing abbreviations(缩写） such as med for medicine, using symbols such as % for percent, and writing short sentences.

   3. After Class Rewrite your notes to make them more complete and accurate (准确的) by changing abbreviations into whole words, symbols into words, and shortened sentences into longer sentences. Use them to answer your questions. If necessary, ask your teacher for help.

    A survey of young people around the world looked at their ideas of today's teenagers．It shows how different they are to those of their parents and grandparents．The survey wanted to try and understand the next generation （ 一 代 人 ） of adults better and these are some of the results．They show that there are many more （A） similarities between young people around the world than differences．

    Gap years （间隔年） between school and university are becoming more and more common．Today's teenagers want to travel to different countries and experience different cultures．They regard this as an important part of their character development．

    For most teenagers，family and friends are the most important side of life．According to the survey，60 percent of British young people said their relationship with their family was of the highest importance to （B） them ．

    75percent of teenagers in Western Europe expect to have enough money to live when they are adults．They are a happy generation．Eight out of ten believe they will have a good profession with a job they enjoy．They also expect that they will be happy and healthy．

How to be a friend of yourself

    We often pay attention to developing relationships with others, however, we forget the basic step: being friends of ourselves. How can we have good relationships with others if we don't even have good relationship with ourselves?{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    First, forgive yourself. It's true that you are not perfect, but neither is everybody else. It's normal to make mistakes{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Second, accept things you can't change. There are some things you cannot change, such as your background and your past{#blank#}3{#/blank#} if you face the things you can't change, just smile, and move on.

    Third, focus on your achievements. You can try making a list of your achievements, which do not have to be big things there are a lot of small but important achievements in our life{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Last but not least, stop comparing yourself with others. You are unique.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} your success is not determined(决定) by other people. Instead, it is determined by your own life purpose.

    Started in 1636, Harvard University is the oldest of all the colleges and universities in the United States. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    In the early years, these schools were much alike. Only young men went to college. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Little was known about science then, and one kind of school could teach everything that was known about the world. When the students graduated, most of them became ministers or teachers.

    In 1782, Harvard started a medical school for young men who wanted to become doctors. Later, lawyers could receive their training in Harvard's law school. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Soon it began teaching American history.

    As knowledge increased, Harvard and other colleges began to teach many new subjects. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Today, there are many different kinds of colleges and universities. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} There's so much to learn that one kind of school can't offer it all.
