Test-taking tips

    Do you sweat, check your pencil, and feel butterflies in your stomach as your teacher hands out the test paper? A lot of people feel anxious when it is time to take a test. Here are some tips for taking tests:

    . Your memory recall will be much better if you have had enough rest. In a scientific study, people who got enough sleep before taking a math test did better than those who stayed up all night studying.

    Read the test through first. Once you have the test paper in front of you, read over the entire test, checking out how long it is and all the parts that you are expected to complete..If something seems unclear before you start, do not worry: ask the teacher.

    Focus on addressing each question individually. . Instead, answer the best way you can or skip over the question and come back to it after you have answered other questions.

    Relax. . Of course you cannot get up and move around in the middle of a test, but you can wiggle your fingers and toes, take four or five deep breaths. As we all know, it can be easy to forget things we know well. During a test, if you forget something and start to get nervous, it suddenly becomes much more difficult to remember.

    Finished already? Although most teachers will let you hand your test paper in early, it is usually a good idea to spend any extra time checking over your work. . On the other hand, if you have 5 minutes until the bell rings and you are still writing, end up whatever you are working on without panic.

    Secret codes(密码)keep messages private. Banks, companies, and government agencies use secret codes in doing business, especially when information is sent by computer.

    People have used secret codes for thousands of years. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Code breaking never lags(落后)far behind code making. The science of creating and reading coded messages is called cryptography.

    There are three main types of cryptography. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} For example, the first letters of “My elephant eats too many eels” spell out the hidden message “Meet me.”

To read the message of a real code, you must have a code book. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} For example, “bridge” might stand for “meet” and “out” might stand for “me.” The message “Bridge out” would actually mean “Meet me.” {#blank#}5{#/blank#} However, it is also hard to keep a code book secret for long. So codes must be changed frequently.

    It's not easy to just get up and go if you're not a morning person. But with some preparation, you can have a great morning routine (常规) before school, which can also make for a good day.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} It helps in the morning if you have something in front of you to check off as you're walking out of the door. The list should include your homework, books and your lunch or lunch money as well as anything else you normally take with you to school.

    Eat a good breakfast. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}  Eating a healthy breakfast helps improve your focus and allows you to stay active in your classes. If you can, prepare your meal the night before. At the least, set out your spoons and plates.

    ⒊ Set a deadline for success.

    Set a date for success. Identify when you hope to achieve your goal.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} By setting a time limit, you are making the process more real.

    Failure can't be avoided when you take risks. By its very definition, the desire to succeed means you are risking failure. Many people tend to give up far too early. Don't fail into this trap! Remember your mindset earlier. Know it will happen. A failure is only you working out the details, and learning what works and what doesn't. Use failure. Treat it as a good thing, and march on!

    “The Normal and Natural Troubles of Driving with GPS” lists several areas where GPS can cause difficulties. They include maps that are outdated, incorrect or difficult to understand. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}GPS may fail due to these reasons and then lead to confusion for the drivers.

    Although GPS sometimes causes difficulties when people are driving, the most attractive point of this system is its 100% coverage on the planet. It is important for you to have to know what you are doing when you use GPS. You need to have the “ability” to be able to use GPS because it sometimes goes wrong.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    Do some activities. Certain activities like yoga and tai chi need quiet focus. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} They are good for the body, mind and spirit.

    Classes are a good place to begin, but once you learn the skills, you can practice anywhere: home, school or even on the road.

    Try out some of these ways and you'll soon be practicing "moments of calm".

The science of setting goals.

It's the time of year when we think to ourselves:our New Year's resolutions will totally work out this time. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. But what if this year really could be different? Kelly McGonigal, a psychologist, shares four tips. 

Choose a goal that matters, not just an easy win. Our brains love rewards, so we often set simple goals that make it easy to check off boxes. But if that's all are about, no wonder we end up abandoning them so quickly. A meaningful goal requires going deeper. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. For example, if you want to quit eating junk food, ask why you want to quit it. Then, if you want to quit it for your health, ask why you want good health.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}.When we set goals, it's easy to focus on that magical ending. But we can't control outcomes. We have to inch toward them, one choice at a time. Ask yourself, "What is the smallest thing I can do today that helps me reach my goal?" If you make daily choices that are consistent with your goal over and over again, you will eventually reach it. 

Frame your goals positively. Focusing on what you want to bring into your life –not what you want to avoid – will make you more likely to actually pursue it. "Any sort of avoidance is going to trigger inhibition systems, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}," says McGonigal.

Prepare for failure. Moments of failure are inevitable, but most of us abandon the goal entirely when minor failures and setbacks start piling up. Your task is not to avoid failures, but to plan for them. Ask yourself, "How am I likely to fail?" For example, if you‘re likely to choose unhealthy meals when you're hungry, carry a light snack that can tide you over. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.
