Confidence is very important in daily life. It can help you to develop a healthy attitude. A study shows that the people who are more confident are much{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(happy), they can have more chances to make{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (they) successful. But how to be more confident? Here are some suggestions :

    * Speak loud   When you are not confident, you can't do well in what you want to do. You speak

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}such a low voice that other people can hardly hear you. Try to speak loud enough so that people can hear you{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(clear). The high voice can help you become more confident.

    *Play sports   Physical exercise makes you tired{#blank#}5{#/blank#}completely relaxed. A strong body helps you be full of {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(confident).

    * Encourage yourself Write down a list of things you did {#blank#}7{#/blank#}the day to see how many things you have done well. Did you finish your homework? Did you tell a joke {#blank#}8{#/blank#}made everybody laugh? Give yourself praise for the good things you've done

    Get rid of (消除) fear  Fear comes along with failure. But {#blank#}9{#/blank#} is easy to overcome if you know that failure is part of your life. {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (do) hide your head just because you said something stupid last time. Try to start again and believe you can do better.

    Pick up a hobby  If you like singing, sing as much as you can. In some ways, a hobby can make you outstanding, and it will make you happy and confident.

Reading is a good habit, but the problem is that there's too much to read, and too little time to read every word of it. So ①we need to find good ways to read faster. There are hundreds of skills (技巧) to help you read more in less time. Here are two skills that I think are especially good.

Preview (预看) —if it's long and hard. This skill is especially useful for ideas of heavy reading like long magazine articles (文章) and business reports (报告).

    Here's how the preview goes.

●Read the first two paragraphs (段落) and the last two paragraphs carefully.

●Then read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs.

    This skill doesn't give you all the details (细节, 详情). It stops you spending time on things you don't really want or need to read.

    Skim (略读)—if it's short and simple (简单的). Skimming is a good way to get ideas of light reading like popular magazines or sports and entertainment (娱乐) papers.

    Here's how to skim.

    ●Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep across each line.

    ●Pick up only a few ②key words in each line.

    Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same piece, but we'll get a similar (相似的) idea of what it's mainly about.

    Do you want to be happy? {#blank#}1{#/blank#} They will help you become a happy person．

   ★Be thankful. There are so many things to be thankful for. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Thank your parents for preparing meals for you ; thank the school bus driver for driving you home safely and thank the mailman for bringing you your letters every day. By doing this you will feel happy．

   ★ {#blank#}3{#/blank#} For example, read a good book , listen to your favorite music or spend time with your close friends. Don't spend too much time worrying about the future, such as going to college or getting a good job．

   ★ {#blank#}4{#/blank#} You may forget about your trouble by joining in some activities like singing, dancing or swimming．★Help others. Many people feel happy after helping others {#blank#}5{#/blank#} You can help a friend with his or her studies. You can read books for the children in your neighborhood. You can also be a volunteer to help the old or the disabled．

    Everyone strongly wants to be a success. What is important for success? Most people think that confidence, hard work and enemies are main factors(因素) leading to success. Ronaldo said he believed he was a better player than Messi in an interview published in Spanish sports paper on Sunday.

    Talking about his achievements of his career, Ronaldo showed pride. Ronaldo was also asked about Messi, who was seen as his biggest enemy to be considered the best player in the world. “Whether you are No. 1 or not is not so important. Although some people may think Messi to be the best,I think that I am.” Ronaldo said that boos(喝倒彩的嘘声) didn't make him sad, but encouraged him to practice harder.

    Ronaldo insisted that hard work was important to be a top player, though at times he felt a great pain for his training, saying a body “was not used” to training hard and playing twice a week. But no pain, no gain. He said he had changed his life to make sure he was in top condition, saying that when in the past he usually went out to relax, but now he “goes home to rest for tomorrow.”

    “Football is my life. It's what I love most.” he explained.

    There was an old pear tree in a man's garden. In the past, the tree fruited every year, so the man would get many pears. But now, the tree got old. There were no more pears for the man. So the man decided to cut the tree down.

    When he walked toward the tree with an axe in his hand, the tree said to him, "Please don't cut me down. I have born so many pears for you in the past years."

    "I'm sorry, but I have to do so," the man said, "because I need wood to make a chair." Then he began to wave (挥动) his axe. At that moment, a bird in the old tree shouted at him, "Don't cut it down! Every time you go out and your wife feels lonely, she will come out to the garden and sit under the tree to enjoy its cool shade (树萌), and I sing songs to make her happy. We give much pleasure to your wife."

    The man didn't listen to the bird and drove it away. Just as he was about to cut the tree, some bees flew out of it and said, "Listen! If you agree not to kill this tree, we will give you delicious honey every day. Would you please leave the tree with us?"

    The man got moved. He said, "You are so kind to the tree, although it has become old. Now I see that I shouldn't cut it down. It has done so much for me and my wife. Let the tree stay here, and let the bird continue to sing songs here." With these words, the man left.
