    If you are like most international students, you are probably pretty comfortable reading and writing in English. Below are some tips to help you to improve your conversational skills.

    Make friends with American students. Many international students end up making friends with a lot of—or only—other international students. Hanging out with natives not only naturally pushes you to improve your spoken English, but also helps you pick up cultural and social information.

    Learn from American friends. Tell your American friends that you are trying to improve your listening and speaking skills, and would like them to help you. If you pronounce a word incorrectly, or misuse an idiom, you ask them to guide you.

    Increase your knowledge.  If you have been exposed to topics that are likely to be discussed in conversation, you have a much better chance of understanding people when they talk, and of being able to express yourself well.

     If you have to explain something to someone, you have a strong motivation to pronounce everything as well as you can, and find other ways to explain yourself. Finally, this becomes a good habit. Many people have asked me how I learned to speak English fluently, and I owe most of it to my years of being a math teacher in college for years.

A. It is bad for them to do that.

B. You will make progress this way.

C. If possible, become a teacher at your school.

D. It's a win-win opportunity for international students.

E. Keep up with news and watch popular shows and movies.

F. Explaining everything in a different way counts.

G. You may have trouble in listening and speaking in the language, however.

    If anyone had told me three years ago that I would be spending most of my weekends camping. I would have laughed heartily. Campers, in my eyes, were people who enjoyed insects bites, ill-cooked meals, and uncomfortable sleeping bags. They had nothing in common with me. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.

The friends who introduced me to camping thought that it meant to be a pioneer. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} We sleep in a tent, cooked over an open fire, and walked a long distance to take the shower and use the bathroom. This brief visit with Mother Nature cost me two days off from work, recovering from a bad case of sunburn and the doctor's bill for my son's food poisoning.

    I was, nevertheless, talked into going on another fun-filled holiday in the wilderness.   {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Instead, we had a pop-up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner. My nature-loving friends had remembered to bring all the necessities of life.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} We have done a lot of it since. Recently, we bought a twenty-eight-foot travel trailer complete with a bathroom and a built-in TV set. There is a separate bedroom, a modern kitchen with a refrigerator. The trailer even has matching carpet and curtains.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} It must be true that sooner or later, everyone finds his or her way back to nature. I recommend that you find your way in style.

A.This time there was no tent.

B.Things are going to be improved.

C.The trip they took me on was a rough one.

D.I was to learn a lot about camping since then, however.

E.I must say that I have certainly come to enjoy camping.

F. After the trip, my family became quite interested in camping.

G. There was no shade as the trees were no more than 3 feet tall.

    Do you want to take time to get in touch with yourself, your feelings, your dreams, and a good, healthy life? Here are some tips:

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Sometimes it seems as if our culture has begun to view the need for sleep as a sign of weakness. But your body was genetically(基因地) programmed to spend a third of its life on sleep, and this affects thinking, memory, growth, your immune(免疫的) system and even your weight.

    Begin the day in thankfulness. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Name each person and hold them in your thoughts. The sense of thankfulness you experience will set a peaceful tone for the entire day, and reduce a day's stress that can lead to sleeplessness that night.

    Strike a balance. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Think about tai chi, prayer, yoga(瑜伽)—any daily activity that allows you to develop a peaceful center and a sense of balance.

    Play with friends. The "tend and be friend studies", as they are called, conducted by UCLA researcher, Shelly Taylor, Ph.D. indicate that when women are stressed, they tend to their children and play with other women. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Use guided imagination. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} The tone of your voice, pacing, music, and pictures will persuade your nervous system that it's time to calm down.

A. Admit the importance of sleep.

B. The images of things make the brain see and think about other things.

C. Emotions are the basis of good communications and healthy relationships.

D. Calming down a stressed nervous system will encourage a balanced life.

E. Take 10 minutes every morning to give thanks to everyone in your life.

F. Recent research has also linked the importance of sleep to behavior.

G. Studies reveal(揭示) that women who have healthy relationships with their children and friends actually sleep better.

    Physical education plays a vital role in the students' development and growth. According to recent medical studies, physical well-being of a student is directly related to his or her performance whether in class or in the office. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

It's a link to good health.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It's only in physical educational classrooms that students learn the value of taking care of themselves through proper grooming, healthy eating and regular exercise.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Many doctors today agree that obesity is a serious health risk. Without any form of diet management and control with the numerous processed food students intake every day, a student's health can easily be at risk to many diseases. Physical education in school is a preventive measure to teach students the value of regular exercise.

It promotes academic learning.

    Physical health allows students to function better in classrooms. A good cardiovascular system developed from regular exercise promotes excellent blood and oxygen circulation. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} This circulation produces longer attention span during classes allowing longer concentration and absorption.

It builds self-trust.

    Students who are active in physical activities are more confident with themselves according to most social school studies. It's probably because of the self-discipline and dedication to excel in a sport that brings out the best in students. In school, the physical education program introduces these sport activities to students. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

It promotes a physically active lifestyle.

    The purpose of physical education is to instill in students, at an early age, the value of self-preservation and choosing a lifestyle that is good for both the mind and body.

A.The article will give you reasons to agree.

B.It is the best way to cure your illnesses.

C.The value of physical fitness can never be overstated.

D.It's a preventive measure against disease.

E.They can make choices about which sport they get involved in.

F.Some students prefer to abandon such activities.

G.  This means more nutrients circulate throughout the body.

How to Become a Lifelong Learner

    Learning doesn't stop just because school does. Making a commitment to yourself to learn something new every day, you will not only enjoy what you discover, but you will be able to apply your knowledge and become a teacher to future generations. Here are some steps to become a lifelong learner.

    Learn how you learn.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Note what learning techniques are most efficient for you and use them as much as is practical, such as viewing online tutorials on websites like YouTube if you're more of a visual learner.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Try many different things so that you don't box yourself into believing you're only good at a few things. It's probable that you're good at many things, but you won't know until you've tried.

    Look at learning as an exploration and opportunity, not a chore (琐事).Don't just force yourself to learn things because they are important or necessary. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Follow your heart, as well as your sense of duty. Do you remember the 8th grade history that you hated so much, with all those names and dates that seemed to mean nothing? The point was to bring you to learn details now, which will knit chunks of information together later.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Read, read, read.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Reading is a gateway into other worlds and into the minds of your fellow human beings. And reading will help you to learn the discoveries and mistakes of others who have gone before you; reading is, in effect, a shortcut so that you don't have to learn things the hard way.

A.Learn where your talents and interests lie.

B.It was a chore then, but it makes sense, now.

E.Their ways of learning might help you to improve your own.

F.Make friends with your local library and new and used book sellers.

Tips for summer reading

    Summer holds many of my strongest and most powerful reading memories.I remember sitting under a tree in the backyard as a child, reading AnneofGreenGables as the shadows crossed the grass.I remember sitting in the back seat of the car on a long family road trip, sharing joke books with my brother and sister and laughing until we cried.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} I want all kids to enjoy the fun of summer reading, because summer reading has secret power.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Here are some ways to motivate kids for summer reading.

    Make children the curators(管理人)of their reading lives.

    Have students set summer reading goals for themselves.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Students can act as “chief curators” of the blog in turn so that over the course of the summer each of them takes on the responsibility of replying to posts and highlighting a popular title.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Taking “curiosity walks” is a fantastic way to bring informational text into a child's reading list.These walks also provide opportunities for authentic writing.Have children take an inspiration notebook on a class walk outside and write down anything they see that they would like to learn more about.

    Make reading more like summer camp.

    Let's combine reading with handson activities and make reading more like summer camp.We can take field trips to the library and search the shelves for books on a topic chosen out of a hat.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} Then they can bring that creation to share on the first days of school.

Reasons You Should Make Time for the Sunset

    Here's why you should consider making time to watch the sunset.

    ⒈It can slow down time.

Seriously. By witnessing the beauty of the sunset, you can slow down your perception (感知)of time. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Amazingly, by taking the time to look at the vast sky, we're actually empowering ourselves to regain control of the clock.

    ⒉It can provide energy for you.

    Even if you have to go back to the office after you watch that last sliver disappear below the skyline, taking a few minutes out of your day to experience some of the golden hour will be worth it.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Often when we feel exhausted we reach for a cup of coffee, but research suggests a better way to get energized (给予能量)is to connect with nature.

    ⒊It will force you to put your phone down.

    When we regard the experience of sunsets as special occasions, we feel the urge to document and save them——as if keeping photos of their beauty will help us remember that wonderful feeling.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    ⒋It will inspire you.

    There's a reason sunsets are a timeless and constant inspiration to poets, writers and romantics.

    ⒌{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    All of us are drawn to sunsets, but people in a few special places really regard the sunset as a daily opportunity to give thanks;{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Crowds gather to cheer and applaud it, reinforcing (加强)the idea that we should celebrate and be thankful for each day.

A. Nature is fuel for the soul.

B. It will help you appreciate life's gifts.
