Hollywood is still seen as a “man's world”, but one woman is doing her best to change that.

In May, 2017, U.S. director Sofia Coppola, 46, became the second woman in the history of the Cannes Film Festival to win the Best Director Award for her movie The Beguiled. The last time a woman won the award was 56 years ago.

Coppola seemed to be born for a career in film. Her father is Francis Ford Coppola, who directed the famous movie The God father. Coppola first appeared as a, baby boy, Michael, in The God father.

However, it didn't make her path to success easier. Instead, she grew up in the shadow of her father. People often criticized her for nepotism(裙带关系)and bad acting. She was named the “Worst Supporting Actress(配角)” and “Worst New Star” at the 1990 Golden Raspberry Awards for her acting in The God father Part III.

After that, she turned to directing-what she really wanted to do all along. Her first film Lick the Star came out in 1998. And Lost in Translation soon won her an Academy Award in 2003. She gradually became famous for films focusing on women. “I just think, half the world is female,” she told Elle.com. She makes films with these females in mind. From the cute Lisbon girls in the Virgin Suicides to the teen queen Marie Antoinette, Coppola brings us into the amazing worlds of girls, rather than simply showing them as stupid, unimportant or useless, Deviant World noted.

    Hey there,
So you're about to spend four years of your life and tens of thousands of dollars of your parents' money, and all you really know about college is that all of your friends are going. Do you ever stop to wonder why you're going?
Relax. You're making the right decision. First of all, you'll discover what interests you by taking courses in many subjects. For example, it's hard to decide if you want to be a painter if you've never painted any pictures; once you're in a drawing room on campus, you'll know one way or the other. College is also a lot of fun—after you graduate, you'll be working every weekday for 50 or so years. And remember that college graduates earn about twice the income of those who never attend college.
Finding the right college can be difficult. Fortunately, Johnson Review is here to help you every step of the way.
*Researching Schools. To us, the most important decision you'll make is to choose the school that really fits you best—not the one that is the most competitive or has the best equipped rooms.
*Applying to School. On JohnsonReview.com, you'll find hundreds of actual college applications and links to many more.
*Raising Your Scores. American College Test is one of the most difficult parts of the admissions course. It's not the most important, though, and not everyone needs to prepare for the test. But, if you think you can do better, find the right course for better scores.
*Paying for School. Most families need financial aid for the high cost of college. The problem is that financial aid seems difficult to get and many families get caught up in the price of college rather than learning the ways to get financial aid. If you really do your research, you'll learn that you can afford to attend any college, no matter the cost.

New Zealand's government is hoping to make the nation greener by planting 100 million trees each year, ensuring the electricity grid(电网) runs entirely from renewable energy, and spending more money on cycle ways and rail transport. The government's plan is to reduce its net greenhouse gas emissionto zero by the year 2050.

New Zealand's prime minister Jacinda Ardern has set ambitious environmental policies to confronta warming planet. “We will absolutely focus on the challenge of climate change,” said Ardern. “That will include a zero carbon government policy. That will include an independent climate commission. That will include making sure that we have an all gases, all sectors emissions trading scheme,” she added. According to the Associated Press (AP), Arden said the goal of doubling the amount of trees the country plants each year is “absolutely achievable.”

Not everybody is happy with the plans. Many farmers are worried they will be required to pay more if they are absorbed into an emissions trading plan. “There is concern that if this should happen, New Zealand will become less competitive with other food-producing nations.” said Katie Milne, the president of Federated Farmers.

More than 80 percent of New Zealand's electricity already comes from renewable resources. The AP reported that Ardern wants to increase it to 100 percent by 2035, in part by investing more in solar, which currently takes up only 0.1 percent of the country's total renewable energy slice.

The periodic table of elements is a common sight in classrooms,campus hallways and libraries. The mode periodic table arranges the elements by their atomic numbers and periodic properties(周期性). Several scientists worked over a century to assemble the elements into this format.

In 1789,French chemist Antoine Lavoisiertried grouping the elements as metals and nonmetals. Forty years later,German physicist Johann Wolfgang Dobereiner observed similarities in physical and chemical properties of certain elements. He arranged them in groups of three in increasing order of atomic weight and called them triads,observing that some properties of the middle element,such as atomic weight and density,approximated the average value of these properties in the other two in each triad.

A breakthrough came with the pu blication of a revised list of elements and their atomic masses at the first international conference of chemistry in Karlsruhe,Germany,in 1860. They concluded hydrogen would be assigned the atomic weight of 1 and that the atomic weight of other elements would be decided by comparison with hydrogen. For example,carbon,being 12 times heavier than hydrogen,would have an atomic weight of 12.

In 1869,Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev created the framework that became the moder periodic table,leaving gaps for elements that were yet to be discovered. Mendeleev predicted the properties of some undiscovered elements and gave them names such as"eka-aluminum"for an element with properties similar to aluminum. Later "eka-aluminum"was discovered as gallium.

German chemist Lothar Meyer produced a version of the periodic table similar to Mendeleev's in 1870. He left gaps for undiscovered elements but never predicted their properties. The Royal Society of London awarded the Davy Medal in 1882 to both Mendeleev and Meyer. The later discovery of elements predicted by Mendeleev verified(证实)his predictions and his periodic table won universal recognition. In 1955 the 101st element was named mendelevium in his honor.

On UNESCO website,it wrote,"The Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is more than just a guide or catalogue of the entire known atoms in the universe;it is essentially a window on the universe, helping to expand our understanding of the world around us. "
