John lives in a tall building in the city of Beijing. There are eighteen floors in the building, and he lives on the fifteenth floor. He uses a lift(电梯)to go up and down.

    John works very hard. He goes to work early. Every day he gets out of the lift. Then he walks to a bus stop. It is about two hundred meters from his home.

    He usually catches the number 11 bus to work. John works in a factory about ten kilometers from his home. He starts working at 8：30, and finishes at 4：30. He gets back home at 5：15. He gets into the lift, and he goes up to the twelfth floor. Then he gets out of the lift and climbs up to the fifteenth floor on foot.

    My name is John Smith. I live in London. I am an engineer. I work for a telephone company. I like different food. From Monday to Friday, I work hard. I eat simply. I have a large piece of cake and a bottle of milk for my breakfast. I have a small lunch. I usually eat a small sandwich and a large bottle of juice. I have fish and chips for my supper. After supper I have a chocolate ice-cream for my dessert(餐后甜点) On Saturdays and Sundays, I go to China Town. I have a bowl of rice and some meat and vegetable. Sometimes I eat Jiaozi or dumplings. They are delicious. I like Chinese food for my Saturday and Sunday supper.

    Eve has a new friend. He is short. And he has no legs. He has a big head. He doesn't have a mouth but he can sing. He doesn't have two hands but he can write letters. Please guess! Who is he?

Saturday, July 23   Sunny and hot

    Bill's family took me to Xidan today. It's a famous shopping centre in Beijing.

    We went to Xidan Bookshop first. Bill's father bought some books for me. He bought two English books about China and one English-Chinese dictionary. I am happy because now I can learn more about China and also learn more Chinese.

    Next we went to a big shopping mall. First I bought a lovely toy panda for my cousin. I also bought silk scarves for my mum and Tina, and a silk shirt for my dad. Then Bill took me to a special kite shop. There were so many beautiful kites. Bill bought me a kite that looks like a bird. Bill is going to teach me to fly it tomorrow.

    Last, we went to a restaurant. We ate delicious Beijing duck there. I really like Chinese food.
