Several times each year the Queen gives afternoon tea parties. But she simply sits beside a big silver plate, pouring cups of tea for everyone and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (skill) avoiding the cakes and sandwiches.

    At cocktail parities the Queen moves from group to group, chatting informally, and manages to make one glass of drink last {#blank#}2{#/blank#} entire evening.

    Tours abroad are difficult because hosts seem to have a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (believe) that the warmth of their welcome must be shown with wonderful state banquets (宴会). But the Queen has perfected the art of appearing to enjoy her meal without actually {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (eat) much.

    During one visit to the Pacific islands of Tonga, a specially– {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (prepare) dinner was arranged in her honor. The Queen looked uneasily at her plate when she discovered a whole roast pig was her serving.

    Then a turkey, some meat, an apple and bananas {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (carry) in for each guest. But she depended on her old favorite trick of talking with her host, King Tupou IV, and carrying {#blank#}7{#/blank#} a warm conversation.

    Sometimes the Queen will seem so carried away by foreign leader's political chat {#blank#}8{#/blank#} she simply never has time {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (finish) a meal before it is time to get up and make her speech. She will lift her fork to swallow a mouthful, and then put {#blank#}10{#/blank#} down again to make another point, leaving almost all of her meal untouched.

    After giving a talk at a high school, I was asked {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (pay) a visit to a special student. An {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (ill) had kept the boy home, but he had expressed an interest {#blank#}3{#/blank#} meeting me. I was told it would mean a great deal to him, so I agreed.

    The thirteen-year-old, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} had muscular dystrophy（肌肉萎缩症）, wanted to meet me because I was a gold-medal power lifter, and I knew how to deal with difficulties.

    I spent over an hour talking to him. Never once {#blank#}5{#/blank#} he complain or ask, “Why me?” He spoke about going for his dreams. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (obvious), he knew what he was talking about. He didn't mention his classmates had made fun of him because he was {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (disable). He just talked about his hopes for the future. When we had finished {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (talk), I pulled out {#blank#}9{#/blank#} first gold medal I had won and put it around his neck. He looked at it for a moment, then {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (take) it off and handed it back to me. He said, “Someday when I get to the Olympics and win my own medal, I will show it to you.”

    A Shanghai policeman took on the role of son to help comfort an elderly couple, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} had lost their own son in a deadly accident.

    In 2003, Liang Qiaoying and her son {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(expose) to poison gas during an accident. The woman survived, but her young son was {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(lucky). And Liang was left mentally-disabled. Her husband, Xia Zhanhai, couldn't bear to tell her the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(true) about their son. Instead, whenever his wife asked to see the son, he kept {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(say) that their son had gone to work in another city.

    In 2010, while watching a television show, Xia Zhanhai was amazed to see an officer that looked {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(exact) like his son. He immediately knew that the young man was the answer to making his wife smile again.

    With {#blank#}7{#/blank#} help of the television station and the police station, the couple were able to meet the very policeman on a TV show.

    The young policeman was touched by {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (they) loss and sadness, and said that he was more than willing {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(act) as the son. Although he still hesitated to call another woman "mum", his mother was happy to support his action.

Their "reunion" lasted just a few minutes on the show, but it had a lasting influence {#blank#}10{#/blank#}the sick "mother".

    May is National Bike Month—a month-long event trying to get couch potatoes (电视迷) outside, cars off the roads and subway trains empty. It is meant {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(encourage) everyone to get back onto their bicycles to enjoy riding a bike as often as they can during the month. Summer begins in May and the weather turns warm. So why not mind {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (enjoy) the sunshine right now?
