Issumboshi was a one-inch boy, and he was so small that he could not do any useful work on the family farm. His grandfather became tired of feeding such a useless man and sent him away to the city.

“Learn to become a warrior(武士),”he told his grandson.“Then perhaps you will grow into a man of normal height.”

To help the little man on his way, his grandfather gave him a cup to use as a boat on the river, his mother gave him two long grains of rice to use as oars and his father gave him a pin to use as a sword.

Issumboshi's journey was long and dangerous. However, because he was so brave and clever, he at last reached the city safely.

To his surprise, the streets were empty. The people of the city were hiding in their houses from a powerful giant.

Immediately, brave Issumboshi went out to meet the giant. The giant tried to pick him up and eat him, but Issumboshi was so small and quick that the giant could not get hold of him.

Issumboshi struck again and again at the giant with his sword. Before long, the giant fell to the ground and died from a thousand wounds.

“Oh, what a great warrior he is!”the people of the city shouted as they came out of their houses.“What a great hero this young man is!”Hearing this, Issumboshi felt so proud that he stood up straight. He told himself, “I am already taller than I was. How wise my grandfather was to send me to the city!

   When we talk about stars, especially women stars, it seems that they are always young, pretty and own charming body shapes. But recently a Britain's Got Talent（英国达人）star Susan Boyle has changed our views absolutely.
   Simon Cowell , one of the judges of the talent show spoke of his shock over Ms Boyle's voice. “This lady camp up, and I'm thinking, "This will take five seconds and I can go to have a cup of tea". That changed when she began to sing I Dreamed to Dream from Les Miserable.    The performance was posted on line and before long, the 47-year-old Scottish woman has been famous all over the world.
Speaking from her home in Scotland, Ms Boyle said that she hasn't thought of changing her appearance. She said that her friend helped her with make-up. “I mean, that's hardly a makeover," she added. Ms Boyle also spoke of the reason she first began to explore her vocal talents, “I was kind of slow at school, so getting like singing was a good way of hiding behind that and thus it built my confidence.”

Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955. He grew up in Seattle, Washington. He was a very clever boy. His favorite subjects at school were science and math. When he was 13, he started to play with computers. At that time, computers were large machines. Once he was very interested in a very old computer. He and some of his friends spent lots of time doing unusual things with it. In the end, they worked out a software program with the old machine. Bill sold it for $4,200 when he was only 17.
In 1973, Bill went to Harvard University(哈佛大学). In his third school year, he left Harvard to work for a company called Microsoft. Bill began his company in 1975 with his friend Paul Allen. But he has to be tied to his wheelchair. And the family can only afford a three-wheeled motorcycle(三轮摩托). Since 2003, the father and son have traveled 14,000 kilometers, to 10 provinces, and thanked more than 30 helpers.
    “I am moved by the story of the boy. We need the courage to face death, and we should also show our gratefulness to those who help us,” says an online post on CCTV. com.

Mr. King lives in a city. He has some shops and makes a lot of money. His son, Mike, studies at a middle school. The boy likes everything but he doesn't like studying. He doesn't listen to his teachers in class and he never finishes his homework on time. He always plays football when he has any free time. He can never pass(通过) the exams.

Mr. King is busy with his trade that he has little time to stay at home. He never cares about his son's studies, so he doesn't know how he is doing.

One day Miss Read, Mike's teacher, calls Mr. King. On the telephone she tells him all about the boy's studies. She wants him to try to help his son at home. When the man hears this, he doesn't feel very happy.

In the afternoon, when his son comes back from school, Mr. King gives him a good telling-off(责罚), but soon feels sorry for it when he sees Mike crying in the bedroom. The next morning, Before Mike goes to school, he says to him, "Study hard and I'll buy you a car when you pass the exam next year."

National medals(奖章) and honorary titles(荣誉称号) are usually awarded once every five years. She has saved millions of lives worldwide. She has also made important scientific innovations(创新) in traditional Chinese medicine.

Tu is not the only one who has given her life to the country's development. Nan Rendong, before his death in 2017, led the research and development of China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST, 500米口径球面射电望远镜), the world's largest radio telescope. He worked on the project for more than 20 years. His contributions to Chinese astronomy (天文) earned him the title, "the people's scientist".

Also receiving awards are six foreign friends who have lent their hands to assist with China. Former French Prime Minister(总理) Jean-Pierre Raffarin, one member of the Friendship Medal, is a supporter of the Belt and Road Initiative(一带一路倡议). Having worked to strengthen the friendship between French and Chinese people in the past few years, he is "sincerely pleased" with the honor. "To work for this friendship is to work for peace," Raffarin said.

Thanks to the great efforts made by these great people, we can live in a peaceful country.
