It was Mother's Day. John was so busy with his work that he couldn't go back home. When he walked by a flower shop in the evening, an idea came to his mind. “I'll send Mum some roses (玫瑰).”
   While John was picking his flowers, a young man went inside. “How many roses can I get for only five dollars, Madam?” he asked. The shop assistant told him that roses were as expensive as forty dollars a dozen (一打). Maybe he would be happy with carnations(康乃馨). She told him they were a lot cheaper than roses.
   “No, I have to have red roses," he said, "My mum was badly ill last year and I didn't get to spend much time with her. Now I want to get something special, it has to be roses, as the rose is her favorite.”
   After hearing this, John said he would pay the rest of the money for the young man. Moved by both of them, the shop assistant said, “Well, lovely young men, thirty dollars a dozen, only for you two." Taking the roses, the young man almost jumped into the air. He thanked John, and ran out of the shop. It was well worth twenty-five dollars John paid to see the exciting moment. Then John paid for his dozen of roses and told the shop assistant to send them to his mother.
   As he walked out, he felt nice. Suddenly he saw the young man crossing the street and going into a park. But soon he realized it was not a park but a cemetery (墓地). Crying, the young man carefully laid the roses, "Mum, oh, Mum, why didn't I tell you how much I loved you? God, please help me find my mum and tell her I love her.”
   Seeing this, John turned and quickly walked back to the shop. He would take the flowers home himself.

    Mrs. Green had a young dog which was very clever. It often helped her buy a newspaper. One winter evening, the dog went out to play. It was snowing heavily. Soon the ground(地面) became white.

     “The dog never loses his way. Where is he now?” Mrs. Green thought. She shouted(喊) his name.

    But still the dog didn't come back. So she telephoned the police and told them a lot about her dog.

    “My dog is very clever. He always goes out and comes back soon. Sometimes he plays with his friend, Mickey. He can buy a newspaper. He almost talks.”

    The policeman was tired and said, “I think you'd better put your telephone down. Maybe he is trying to telephone you now.”

    Roger, a young man from China, has taught Chinese in a primary school in England for 3 years．A lot of children like his class and he enjoys teaching them very much．All the pupils are quite interested in what Roger teaches them．They learn quickly and do everything carefully．

    One day he said to the children, “People in a lot of Asian countries wear white clothes at funerals(葬礼), but people in America and in Europe wear white in the weddings because white means purity and happiness．What colour does an English woman wear when she gets married?”

    Mary said, “White, sir, because she is happy．” “That is good, Mary,” Roger said．“You are quite right．She wears white because she is happy．”

    But then one boy in the class put up his hand．“Yes, Dick?” Roger said, “Do you have a question?” “Yes,” Dick said．“Why do men wear black in our country when they get married, sir?”

    Do you know George? He is a little monkey. He lives in a deep forest. He likes jumping and climbing trees. He is happy every day. But he has a shortcoming（缺点）. He is curious（好奇的）.

    One day an old man went by the forest. He cared a lot of hats. George saw the old man, and the old man saw George, too. The old man said to himself, what a lovely monkey! I will catch him. I will take him home.

    The old man sat down and thought over. George saw and also sat down. The old man had an idea. He put a hat on his head, and put other has on the ground, Then be pretended(假装)to sleep.

    George was curious and looked at the hats. "I will be nice if I put a hat on my head, "George thought. Then be climbed down from the tree, picked up a hat and put it on. The hat was too big, and covered George's eyes. George couldn't see. And the old man got up at once and caught him quickly.

Poor George!

    Home garages (车库)usually have space for a car and maybe things like tools and bicycles. But at Jaecee Rae Carr's home in Tennessee, USA, her parents, garage is filled with blankets and towels.

    After a visit to the local animal shelter (收容所), Jeacee decided to do something to help make the animals more comfortable.

    "I started asking friends, family and neighbors to donate blankets and towels to our local animal shelters," said Jaecee. "I didn't expect people to give so much! We have donated all of them to 20 shelters in 7states."

    Still, Jaecee Rae wanted to do more for shelter animals. So she started pet food donation. "Family, friends, teachers and people in my community donated about 2,700 pounds of dog and cat food," said Jaecee.

    In 2013, Jaecee was praised on different situation because of her hard work. After a year she won the Tennessee Governor's Volunteer Stars Award. She was the youngest person to win the prize and that made her so proud.

    Jaecee didn't stop trying to do more. "In March 2019, my family and people in the community donated things to my Humane Yard Sale. "Our garage was full! "said Jaecee, didn't realize so many things to help. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. We sold so many things and raised over $1,000 from the yard sale!"

    What's next for the young volunteer to do for animals? Maybe a look at her garage will tell the tale!
