One Saturday afternoon, Kate went to buy something for her sister and1 .

As Kate was coming out of a shop. A young lady walked towards her. She said she was Miss Green-a good friend of Kate's  sister's.  Kate 2her. Then she called a taxi 3Kate home. She told the driver where he should go. Kate was 4 that it was not in the direction of her home.

    When they came to a quiet road, a big rude man 6on the road. He stopped the taxi driver, knocked him down, tied him, and threw him out of the7 . At the same time, Miss Green took out of a knife and8it at Kate. She asked Kate to keep9. The man then started the taxi. "

    “Oh, God! I'm being kidnapped," Kate said to herself.

     She tried to escape, but she didn't10 . Suddenly an 11 came to her. She took out a lipstick (口红) from her pocket, wrote 'SOS' on the window, and covered the word12her back.

    A few minutes later, a police car 13 and the policemen saw the sign. When the kidnappers saw the policemen they stopped the taxi, jumped into the grass, and14.

    The policemen then picked Kate up and sent her home. When her parents knew what had happened, they were greatly surprised. But they were 15because their daughter had finally come back safely.

    On 28 of March Richard Byrd stood outside the small house. He shook hands with the men who were leaving. They were heading back to the main camp on the coast of Antarctica (南极洲). He would 1 to work at the base camp.

    "I don't like leaving you here alone,"Pete Demas said."I'll be 2,"Byrd replied. He was looking forward to the challenge of spending the winter at the base camp. He would be recording the weather. There was plenty of food and fuel (燃料) in the tiny house. He felt sure 3 would go wrong.

Many musicians meet and form(组成)a band because they like to write and play their own music. They may start as a group of high school students and practice their music in someone's house. Sometimes they may play to passers—by in the street or subway so that they can get some money for themselves or pay for their instruments (乐器).

    However, there was one band that started in a different way. It was called the Monkees and was formed in 1965. It began as a TV show. The TV show had planned to find four rock musicians who could act as well as sing. But they could only find one who was good enough. They had to use actors for the other three members of the band.

    Since some of these actors could not sing well enough，they had to ask for help from other musicians. So at first，the band just pretended (假装)to sing. Anyway，their performances were excellent and they got lots of fans. Each week on TV，the Monkees would pretended to play and sing songs written by other musicians.     However, the band broke up around 1970，but happily they reunited(重聚)in the 1980s. They produced a new record in 1996 to celebrate their time as a band. It was very successful. Today the Monkees are still making music for their millions of fans.
