It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain 1 almost a month. The crops were dying. If we 2see some rain soon, we would lose everything.

    I was making lunch in the kitchen when I saw my3 son, Billy, walking towards the woods. He was walking with a great effort... trying to be as still as possible. Minutes later, he was once again walking towards the woods. I4 stand it any longer. I went out of the house and followed him.

    He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked, being very careful not to spill (溢出）the water he carried.

    As I came closer, I saw 5 sight. Several large deer stood in front of him. Billy walked straight up to them. I almost screamed for him to get away. But the deer 6 hurt him nor even moved as Billy got down. And then I saw a baby deer7on the ground, thirsty, lift its head to lap up(舔) the water in my boy's hands. When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house. I followed him back to a tap. Billy opened it and let the drip slowly fill up his “cup”.

    8he stood up and began to turn back, I was there in front of him. His little eyes9with tears. Very quickly, he explained10he was not wasting water. The week before, he had made 11 same trouble with our horses,12caused him a lecture from his father about the importance of not wasting water.

    This time, I joined him, with a small pot of water from the kitchen. I let him 13 the baby deer alone , for it was 14job. All I can say is that the rain came that day saved our farm, just like the actions of one little boy saved the little deer.

    Of course this was only a joke.I saw4 cleaning woman every day.She is short and about 60 years old.

    Before the class ended，one student asked the teacher9the last question would count into our grade.

One man was walking on the street with his worker. They saw a1 horse. The man liked it very much. So, he went to the owner and told him that he wanted to buy it.

The owner agreed and sold the horse at a good 2 . When the man went back home, he asked his worker to take the saddle（马鞍）away. To their surprise, there was a 3 bag under the saddle. After the worker opened the bag, he found some diamonds（钻石）inside. The worker was very 4 and shouted, "Look, sir! The horse you bought has diamonds with it!" But the man said to the worker, "I bought a horse. I only5 the horse, not for the diamonds. I must 6 the diamonds." Then the man went back to the street. He saw the horse seller was still there. He gave the small bag to him. The horse seller was7 surprised and said, "Thank you so much, sir. I hid the bag under that horse's saddle and I forgot it. Please choose a diamond from the bag as my8 for you."

Ethan was riding his new bike. When he got to the end of the road, he turned around. He stopped the bike in front of Mom. 

"See? I never fall anymore. Can I ride to the park alone now?"

Usually, when Ethan rode a bike to the park, Mom or Dad came along. But this time, he was sure he could do it on his own. 

Mom looked at Ethan and said, "OK. But there are lots of cars on the street when you ride. You must be careful of them. And remember to come home early. Now, have fun on your own!"

Ethan felt excited to hear this. The park wasn't far from his home. Ethan looked both ways when he rode into the street, and he remembered his mom's words. At the end of the street, Ethan had to turn right to get to the park. He used his arm to make the signal (信号) so cars would know where he was going. 

When Ethan arrived at the park, he slowed down. He parked his bike and ran to find his friends. 

"You know what? I rode my bike here all by myself!" Ethan said. "It's very cool to do it on my own."
