When I was a junior high school student in 1980, God gave me a gift, it was happiness.

 One weekend, I went to visit my grandparents in the countryside. On my way home a car ran over me and cut off my  1  because of its high speed.

 Several days later when I woke up at the hospital, I realized I had to spend the rest of my life ­ 2  arms. How sad I felt at that time! Even I was full of fears. 3  slowly I knew I had to face the fact and got over it. I couldn't get my arms back even though I 4every day.

However, it's easier 5 than done. It took me nearly half a year to get out of the sadness 6 . I got so much from my past story. From then on, I could treat my life with a 7 mind. But in our daily life, I often see my classmates 8 about little things: They get a bad grade on a test; their bus comes9; they don't have a mobile phone but 10 have, and so on. But I only 11 life. I was lucky to realize from an accident : It is a waste of our life to focus on what you have 12 . We should always think of what we have. So why are so many people unhappy? Someone may say, “My whole life would improve 13 I have a new car.” But when you get the car and what 14 ? For a whole week you are walking on air. Then you go right back to being unhappy.

Happiness depends on what we have! It's in our heart. It's a state of mind, even though you own the whole world, you may still feel15 .Happiness comes from mastering the art of appreciating(感激) and taking pleasure in what you really have.

    Jenny, from Germany, spent some time traveling in India. While she was there, she stayed with her Indian friend, Leela. However, there was a language barrier(障碍) for her there. It was very 1 for her to communicate in the new environment, which was very different from2 of her own country.

    One day, together with Leela, Jenny went to 3 an orphanage(孤儿院). All the children there were very young. At first, Jenny was not sure if she could have a way to communicate with them. She went over to the children 4 and sat beside them. After some time, one of the children 5 her. She felt a little relaxed and smiled back. Then she went close to the child. She slowly put her arm around the child and started 6 a song in German. The child kept smiling and started repeating the words after her. The words that came from the little mouth were different from those that Jenny sang, but the rhythm(节奏) was the same. Jenny sang a little more and the child followed her again. Wanting to join in the 7, another child went up to Jenny and started singing the rhythm. Then more children joined. They8 many smiles together.

    From the other side of the hall, Leela was smiling and watching them. Noticing Leela's9 on her, Jenny had an exciting feeling from her heart: “See, I don't have any language barriers here. We 10 speak and communicate!” At that moment, she understood: we're all simple human, and we have the ability to connect with each other.

    It was a sunny day yesterday. After a whole day's work in my office, I walked home. On the busy street, I saw a young man 1 some small toys around the corner. Usually, I would hurry 2 such sellers and never buy anything. But when I noticed he was 3, I decided to stand there for some time. I wanted to see 4 he sold his toys.

    Soon, a little girl came with her mother and wanted a toy that could 5 a noise. Kids like such toys because the noise sounds really funny. The toy was 18 yuan. The mother 6 a 20-yuan note(钞票). She told the young man how much she was giving him and wanted the change(找零) 7. I was wondering what he was going to do next. He told the mother to put the money in his bag and get the change 8. Then she did so.

    What the young man did shocked me. He chose to 9 people even if he couldn't see. He let me know believing in people is a 10 thing. It brings us warmth and love. I was so touched that I made a 11 to buy a toy although I didn't need it at all. He said it cost 18 yuan and I told him that I had only one 20-yuan note. Again he told me to do the same thing as the mother. I put my 20 yuan in his bag, 12 I didn't take any change.

    As I walked down the street, I saw another little girl with her father and gave her the, 13 I bought. She looked at me in surprise and then thanked me 14. I was happy to see the smile on her face.

    The young man was a good 15 to us all. On my way home, I kept thinking the world would be a better place if we all could learn to trust people more, just like the blind street seller.

    I have lots of friends but my best friend is Laura. We're very similar in a lot of ways. We are both tall, but I am a bit taller than Laura. We  1 have black hair and brown eyes. We both like sports, so we get up early every day to 2. I am usually tired in the mornings, 3. I stay up later than Laura because I like watching TV and playing computer games! Laura doesn't 4 TV always. But she enjoys playing computer games.

    Laura is very smart and hard-working-- she often gets 5 grades than I 6. But she still has time to go out and7with her friends. She is very outgoing, and she is 8 most popular girl in school. Everyone likes her 9 she's very kind and helpful. I don't work as 10 as Laura, but I am a good student. I go for all my classes and do my 11 every day. Sometimes I need help with my homework and Laura is always there to help me. When l am unhappy, she knows how to make me 12 better. I am so lucky to have a friend like Laura!

A beautiful smile

    When I was thirteen years old, a girl gave me an important gift. It was a smile.

    It was the early autumn of my 1 year at a new school. It's also the first year of middle school. No one knew me. I was very 2, and afraid to make friends with anyone.

    Every time I heard the other students talking and laughing, I felt even more lonely. I could not talk to anyone about my problem, and I didn't want my parents to worry about me.

    One day, my classmates were 3 with their friends, but I sat in silence(沉默) and felt so down that everything didn't sound real. At that moment, a girl entered the classroom. I did not know who she was. She passed me and then turned back. She looked at me and, without a word, 4.

    Suddenly, I felt the 5 of something bright and friendly. It made me feel happy, lively and warm. It was like a hidden treasure(宝藏).

    That smile 6 my life. I started to talk with other students. Day by day, I learnt to trust people, and they included me in their circle of friends. The girl with the bright smile has become my best friends now, and we stick together like glue. I can talk to her about my study, feelings and hobbies, pretty much everything. I am so 7 that I met such a nice girl.

    One day, I asked her why she smiled at me that day. She said she could not remember!

    Now I believe that the world is like a 8. It is just what you think it is. If you think you are lonely, you might always be alone. But if you smile at it, it will always smile back!
