Do you want to be successful in everything you do? If so, then 1? Here is an example.

    There was a farmer who 2 corn（玉米) all his life. Each year he took his corn to the market. Then each time his corn was chosen as the 3 and won the first prize.

    One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something 4 about how he grew it. The farmer  5 his seed (做种子的) corn to his neighbours.

    "How can you share your best seed corn with your neighbours?" the reporter asked. "You know they are taking part in the 6 with you each year. "

    The farmer knows much about the connection of life.  His corn cannot improve 10 his neighbours' corn improves.

    As a great man says, "We make a living by what we 11; we make a life by what we give." We can't  12 without food, clothes, and many other things. However, a meaningful life is not decided by how much we can get, 13  by how much we can give others. Giving, instead of taking, makes us 14 from other animals.  So those who choose to live well must help others to live well and those who choose to be happy must help others to find 15 in their life.

In 2023, a group of the young drew much attention in their different fields. They have become role models for young Chinese by showing how excellent and active they are. Here are the stories of three of them.

Chinese writer Hai Ya's The Space-Time Painter won an important prize on Oct 21st. He is the third Chinese writer to win this prize. Hai Ya was born in the 1990s. His work mixes history and science. The Space-TimePainter, for example, tells us a story of a painter called Zhao Ximeng. 

15-year-old Chen Yujie won the 100-meter event at the second U15 Gymnasiade (世界中学生运动会) in August. Chen often takes hard training all day and all night. Although it makes her painful sometimes, she says, "I get used to the training and it gives me the chance to realize my dream. I will keep on running!"

On Dec 21st, the members of Shenzhou XVII carried out their first spacewalk outside the Tiangong space station. Among them, Tang Shengjie who was born in 1989 set a new record by becoming the youngest Chinese astronaut (宇航员) to have a spacewalk. "It's the highest honor (荣誉) for me." he said in an interview with Xinhua.

It was a cold night. The taxi driver didn't take even one passenger all day. When he went by the train station, he saw a young man coming out with two bags in his hands. So he drove to him and asked, "Where are you going, sir?"

"To the MP Hotel," the young man answered. When the taxi driver heard this, he didn't feel happy any more. The young man would give him only three dollars because the hotel was near the train station. But suddenly, he had an idea. He took the young man through many streets of the big city. After a long time, they arrived at the hotel. "Here we are! You should pay me seventeen dollars, please," the taxi driver said to the young man. "What? Seventeen dollars! Do you think I'm a fool? Only last week, I took a taxi from the train station to this hotel and only gave the driver fifteen dollars. I know how much I have to pay for the trip!"

Nancy is one of my {#blank#}1{#/blank#} friends. We are {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Class 1 Grade 8. She is the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} girl in our class, about 1.64 metres. She is slim and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} long hair.

Nancy is humorous. she can tell funny {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and often makes us laugh. We never feel {#blank#}6{#/blank#} with her. She is helpful, too. And she is ready {#blank#}7{#/blank#} others anytime. I'm not good {#blank#}8{#/blank#} English and she often helps me with my English.

Nancy is a true friend. When something {#blank#}9{#/blank#} me, I can always go to her. I can tell her anything because she can {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a secret.

How did you spend your summer vacation last month? I'd like to tell you what happened to me during my vacation. 

My name is Zhu Min. My parents planned a relaxing trip. We didn't need to worry about our work and studies. On the first day, before we started out for Beijing, we saw on TV that the traffic was heavy. So we decided not to drive our car but to take the bullet train(高速列车)to Beijing. It was the first time that I had ridden on the bullet train. 

On the way, an American girl, Mary, sat next to me and I talked to her. She told me that she came here for a short stay-her father came to China on business. In one year he would go back to his company in the US. "How are you getting along here?" I asked. "Pretty well. I enjoy the life here and the people are friendly, " she said. With new friends around, she still missed her friends in the US very much. "It doesn't matter. I could always connect with them by writing letters, e-mails or making phone calls. "she said with a sweet smile. 

I was really happy to meet her, and know her life in different cultures. Traveling made me know a lot!
