Soon computers and other machines will be able to remember you by looking at your eyes! The programme works because everyone's eyes are different. So in the future you won't have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or take money out of a bank. You'll just have to look at the machine and it will be able to tell who you are.
    The eye-recognition（识别）programme is already being tested in shops and banks in the USA, Britain, Spain, Italy and Turkey. Soon, this technology will take the place of all other ways of finding out who people are.
    However, scientists are working on other systems. Machines will soon be able to know you from the shape of your face or hand or even your smell! We already have machines that can tell who you are from your voice or the mark made by your finger.
    Eye-recognition is better than other kinds because your eyes don't change as you get older, or get dirty like hands or fingers. And even twins have different eyes, so the programme can be up to 94％ correct, depending on how good the technology is. Some programmes may only be right  51％ of the time. In Britain, it was found that 91％ of people who had tried it said that they liked the idea of eye-recognition. In the future your computer will be looking at you in the eye. So smile!

    Many people have dogs at home as pets. If a dog is happy, then he may want to meet you or play with you. If he doesn't feel happy, then he would rather stay alone. But dogs can't talk. How can you tell how your dog is feeling? By his body language.

    If your dog's head and back are lowered, his ears are down and his eyes are narrowed, and his tail is between his legs, then he is fearful. You may touch him gently to comfort him. If your dog's ears are up, his eyes are bright, and he wags his tail rapidly (快速地), he is very happy. He may also hold his mouth open more or even pant (气喘) mildly. Then you can go and play with him freely. If he closes his mouth and looks serious as you get closer, then he has changed his mind. It is better to leave him alone until he comes to you. Remember, we are talking about dogs that you know. Be sure a parent is around to allow you to get close to the dog. Get away from strange dogs even if they seem friendly.

    The most important clue (线索) is the mouth. If the dog's mouth is closed, then he is most likely to be not relaxed or happy, and he does not want you to touch or play with him right now.

    Cows do have best friends and feel stressed when they are separated. Scientists have found that cows are very social animals and a cow always makes friends with other cows. When a cow is with its friends, it feels relaxed, compared with when it is alone.

    During breeding season, a male penguin(企鹅) will offer a small stone to a female penguin as a gift. If she takes it, they will become partners. When the female penguin lays an egg, she and her partner may carry it on their feet, because some penguins don't build nests(鸟巢).

    Crocodiles(鳄鱼) swallow(吞) stones. Crocodiles always swallow their food instead of eating it like other animals. They swallow stones which break the food into very small pieces in their stomachs. These stones may stay in their stomachs all their lives.

    Elephants use plants to treat pain or other illness. Scientists once found a pregnant (怀孕) elephant in Africa who ate a kind of plant which was not part of her normal food. Four days later, she gave birth to a baby elephant. The same plant was used by the local pregnant women.

    Robots come in many shapes and sizes. But most have one thing in common. They are built to help people, Lately engineers have been developing new kinds of robots. These high-tech machines are designed to lend a hand everywhere from hotels to disaster areas.

    Since November, a robot named Pepper has been on the job at Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. When guests have questions or need directions, they can ask Pepper. They can also use the robot's touch screen to find the information they need. Pepper is able to talk with guests and make them happy with stories too. It can even tell what kind of mood they are in.

    "Pepper provides our guests with information in an exciting and new way." says the hotel manager Donald Bowman.

    For a kid, being in the hospital can be boring and even scary. But a small robot called NAO is helping to make hospital stays easier. It was designed to keep people company.

    A Tennessee doctor named Phil Parker bought a NAO robot three years ago. He programmed(为…….编制程序)it to talk to and play with young patients. He brought it to hospitals to help sick kids. When kids get medical tests, NAO explains what is going on. The robot also reads to kids and plays games with them like Rock, Scissors ,Cloth(石头剪刀布).

    "The robot gets many kids to smile for the first time since they were in hospital," Parker says.

    Other robots are designed to help to save people in dangerous areas. For example, disaster areas can be full of broken stones and other dangers. Engineers in Japan are planning to build a robot called E2-DR to go into those areas and search for people who are hurt.
