Chuck Wall teaches management and human relations at Bakersfield College. He walked into class one day and told his students that their homework was to perform a simple and random act of kindness. Not {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (understand) the homework, the students didn't know what to do. Chuck didn't answer their questions. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, he encouraged his students to work it out by themselves.

    One week later, the students entered the classroom and began sharing their stories {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (excited). One reported on helping a poor dog {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (abandon) by its owner. Another student told others about giving blankets away to the homeless. Gradually, more and more students developed the habit of doing such kind acts, from {#blank#}5{#/blank#} they benefited a lot.

    Since then, similar kind acts {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (perform) in schools around the world. Many schools organize a Random Acts of Kindness Week, around November 13^th, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (celebrate) World Kindness Day. Some schools use each day of Random Acts of Kindness Week to perform a {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (differ) kind act, such {#blank#}9{#/blank#} making a new friend, helping someone, doing community service or raising money for a charity. In this way, students learn to consider other people and think about how small actions can make the world a {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (good) place.

    We high school students do have some growing pains, but we can get rid of them{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (correct) and wisely. First, some of us are upset about our body style and looks. It's unnecessary and it's not important at all. We needn't care about it. It is one's inner beauty that{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (matter). Second, we sometimes seem to be misunderstood by our teachers, parents and classmates. Faced with this, we can find a proper time to have a heart-to-heart talk with them, trying to remove the misunderstanding. Some of us have fewer friends, I think being open-minded and friendly will do us good. Third, we may fall behind others, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} makes us stressed. Actually we can encourage{#blank#}4{#/blank#} to work efficiently, full of{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (determine). At last, some of us don't have much pocket money, so they feel unhappy. Isn't it strange? So long as we have some, that's enough. And we can learn how to spend money.

    One night, Mrs Riley,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} elderly woman was walking along a dark, London street. She was carrying her handbag in one hand and a plastic carrier bag in the other. There was nobody else in the street{#blank#}2{#/blank#}two youths. They were standing in a dark shop doorway. One of {#blank#}3{#/blank#}was very tall with fair hair while the other was short and fat with a beard.

    The youths waited for a few moments, and then ran quickly and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (quiet) towards Mrs Riley. The tall youth held her from behind while the other youth tried {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(seize) her handbag.

    Suddenly, Mrs. Riley {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(throw) the tall youth over her shoulder. She crashed into the other youth and they both landed on the ground. Without {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(speak), Mrs. Riley struck both of them on the head with her handbag, and walked calmly away.

    The two{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(surprise) youths were still sitting on the ground when Mrs. Riley crossed the street towards a door, above {#blank#}9{#/blank#}there was a lighted sign. Mrs. Riley paused, turned round, smiled at the youths and walked {#blank#}10{#/blank#}the South West London Judo(柔道) Club.

    Communicating with the old can be challenging, especially when considering the fact {#blank#}1{#/blank#} their abilities are failing.

    First of all, you are {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (suppose) to respect the old's thoughts, backgrounds and life experience. Do not correct their opinions even when you can't reach any {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(agree). And when old people are talking, listen {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(careful). Let them finish because letting them express their thoughts and emotions {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(be) important.

    When you're together with them, try to know if they would like {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(chat) or be quiet. And when you feel they want to be quiet, just be there, because{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(spend) time with them is as important as talking to them or cheering them up.

    As communication with old people can be difficult, it is {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(importance) to be always patient. When you are explaining something {#blank#}9{#/blank#} them, you should remain patient when they ask you to repeat yourself. Try using gestures while you talk with them, or write down what you want to say when {#blank#}10{#/blank#}is necessary.
