【盐仓24秋】外研版(2024)英语九年级下册B本Module 7 English for you and me Unit 2
If you've been studying for a while, you'll notice that there is more than one type of "English". The website, Big Seven Travel, made a list of the world's 50 most attractive accents(口音), and many different kinds of English made the list.
The main reasons that affect the way people speak a language are geography — where they are in the world, and society — the way their communities speak. As a result, English has many differences in vocabulary and slang(俚语).
Located in two different places, the US and the UK provide great examples. They often have different words for the same things. The US people call the back part of a car, used for carrying big and heavy things or suitcases, the"trunk", but in the UK, people call it the"boot". In the US, the word"boot" means a wheel clamp(车轮夹锁) that police put on a car.
Slang also causes confusion (困惑). The US slang is hugely different thanks to many kinds of people who have moved to the country. African- American slang is especially confusing for foreign language learners. It uses its own grammar. For example, "a person who is awake to reality" would be called"a woke person". Southern American slang also can be confusing. "I'm fixing to fix it" means"I'm getting ready to fix it". Australian slang, meanwhile, is all about abbreviations(缩写词). They say"sanga" for"sandwich", "brekkie" for"breakfast", and"arvo" for"afternoon". It can make you wonder if either of these countries is actually speaking English.
English writer Virginia Woolf once wrote, "Language is wine upon the lips. " The next time you're speaking English with someone, check the accent on the bottle!

Hopes, ambitions(抱负) dreams. How many of your will you achieve? When you look back at your life in the future, will you have good memories of all the things that you did? Or will you regret all the things that you didn't do?
Of course, there's no easy road to success, but one thing is certain: success won't come if you don't do anything. So how do you do it? This four-step model will help you to make your dreams come true.
Step 1: {#blank#}1{#/blank#}What would you like to do? Write down all your ambitions. They may be very general, such as I would like to be fitter. I want to be famous. or It would be nice to have more friends. Or they may be more specific, like I've always wanted to play a musical instrument. | Step 2: {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Now you need to do two things: 1. Choose one or two ambitions. 2. Set a time limit(限定) For example, I would like to be fitter in Step 1 now becomes I will be fit enough to join a half-marathon race by the end of August. |
Step 3: {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Now that you've made your choice, what are you actually going to do to achieve your goal? So, in our example, I will be fit enough to join a half- marathon race by the end of August, becomes I'm going to join a running club.Or I'm going ta go jogging three times a week. | Step 4: {#blank#}4{#/blank#}This is when you change your intentions(意图) into specific actions. Prepare to do something at a specific time. So now I'm going to join a running club. becomes I'm meeting the president of the Cheetahs Running Club on Monday evening at 5:30. |
Don't let your ambitions die. Follow this four step plan and make your dream come true.
A. Change I would like to...to I will.... B. Change I did...to I do... C. Change I'm going to...to I'm doing...on...at... D. Think about your ambitions E. Change I will...to I'm going to... |
Will you try the four steps plan to make your dream come true? Why or why not? {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
Reading is a lifelong journey. Put yourself into a world of books and get lost in another world—but where do you start? {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
◆ Ask a librarian(图书管理员)
The best people to throw your questions at are librarians! {#blank#}2{#/blank#} If you tell a librarian what you've read before and what you liked or disliked about it, they will suggest some possible books for you to try.
◆ Make a change.
{#blank#}3{#/blank#}You may get used to reading history books or you just take an interest in science fictions. What about the books about culture? You'll never know until you try. Give a new style a chance and you may enter a whole new world of reading.
◆ Read reviews.
Book reviews can help you decide if a book is for you. There are usually short reviews on the covers of books. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Some websites provide book suggestions from writers, parents and teachers. Some people's opinions about the books are very interesting. Their ideas may help you get a right pick.

Would you like to choose a wise way to connect yourself with your kids? Here is the best family-friendly game for you.
Exploding Kittens Card Games
Exploding Kittens is a great family game—it's easy to learn, competitive (竞争的), and it brings lots of silly fun. What's more, it's light enough to take with. In the game, players take turns to-pick out a card. The player who takes the exploding kitten card will be a loser. The game will go on until there is only one player left. He or she will be the winner. Clearly, the player wins the game because of luck. However, it is still super exciting. Players always have great fun. For young players, it's easy to make them frustrated because it takes a few rounds for them to remember what the graphic on each card means. That's why the game's creators advised ages seven and up. Price: $20 Type: Card | Age Range: 7 and up | Number of Players: 2-4 | Playing Time: 15 minutes |
