A pack rat① named Poncho had a big storeroom for all his things. Every day, Poncho went outside. He came back with leaves for lunch, seeds for supper and other things to f{#blank#}1{#/blank#} his storeroom. 

One day, as Poncho was walking, he saw a shiny golden spoon. He picked up the spoon and took it home. 

"Oh no," said Poncho, looking around his storeroom. "There's no s{#blank#}2{#/blank#} for my spoon. I'll have to move things around to find a place for it." But he failed. 

"I'll sort my things into two piles," Poncho said to himself. "I'll make a pile of things I want to s{#blank#}3{#/blank#} and a pile of things to throw away." When Poncho finished sorting, he didn't have two piles. He had one pile. He wanted everything. He was sad because his plan had not worked. 

Then an idea came to Poncho's mind. "I know how I'll make room for my spoon! My birthday is coming soon. I can have an amazing party."

Poncho made an i{#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

Come to my special birthday. I'll have a giving-away party. Don't bring me a present. I'll give each of you one instead. After the party, you can take anything e{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the shiny golden spoon outside my door. 

Poncho's friends all came to his party on the birthday. They ate birthday berries and sang the birthday song. Then Poncho said, "It's time for my dear friends to pick presents."

The party turned w{#blank#}6{#/blank#}. The guests shouted happily, chose what they like and showed appreciation to Poncho. And he waved goodbye to all his friends. 

"Now I will bring in my shiny spoon," Poncho said happily. He went out and took the spoon inside. He stood in the center of the storeroom and looked around, "Tomorrow I will go out and get a few m{#blank#}7{#/blank#} things. After all, why have a storeroom if you don't store things in it?"

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon—not just any afternoon, but my birthday afternoon. We had the delicious cake. My mum 1 it. It was time to open the 2 . To my surprise(惊讶), my parents gave me a new 3 this year. 

I liked my new baseball so much, and I wanted to take4 everywhere I went. 5 my parents didn't want me to take it to school. The next day I did it anyway and it was a big6 .

Like most parents, mine spent much time advising me to take part in activities outside school. However, they never forced me, and I never found anything I was interested in. Then one day a friend at school told me about a local dance group and asked if I wanted to go with her. So, after school we went to talk to the dance teacher. She explained everything to us and we both decided to join.

My parents were really pleased to hear I'd finally chosen dancing. They think if you develop an interest in doing something yourself, it will be easier to succeed.

I' ve now been attending the dancing classes for 3 years and I really enjoy it. We are organized into age groups, and at 16 I'm now in the oldest class. There are classes of swing dance, ballet(芭蕾舞), street dance and folk dance. I practice street dance and I'm quite good at it. I also help out leading some of the younger children.

We also take part in events like local and even national dance shows, and relatives turn up to see their children perform. My parents are proud of me as they tell me all the time.

Now I' ll be too old to continue dancing with the group. However, I have already made plans to continue with them. The dance school has become very successful and is opening new classes. The director has asked if I'd like to be one of the group leaders and of course I said" yes"!

In ancient（古代的） China, people have three names: their family name, given name, and courtesy name（字）. For example, we know Li Bai is a famous poet（诗人）. His family name is Li, his given name is Bai, and his courtesy name is Taibai. 

People use their given names when they are with their family or friends. And grandparents and parents call kids their given name at home. But when people work, they use their courtesy names. 

Men get their courtesy names when they are 20 years old. Women get their courtesy names after they get married（结婚）. 

People's courtesy names have something to do with（与……有关）their given names. For example, Zhuge Liang（诸葛亮）'s given name is Liang. It means（意思是）"bright（明亮的）". His courtesy name is Kongming. And the meaning is"very bright". 

Wang Ming and Leo are two students of Shenzhen. Last summer holiday they went to Beijing from Shenzhen by bike. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} They took a map, enough food, water and some medicine with them. The journey was hard, but they felt happy.

They didn't have much money with them. They went through many cities and villages during the travelling. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} When they were tired, they stayed in the farmers' houses. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} They never stayed in a hotel. When it was rainy, they stopped for a while and went on with their travelling.

Are you a shy person? When I was in primary school, I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} very shy and I really was. I was afraid of speaking in front of the public. You might not believe that I even got  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} when speaking in class. 

But now, I can stand in public and show my ideas without {#blank#}3{#/blank#} afraid with the help of my dad. "When you are talking in public, just imagine you are talking to your closest friend, " Dad said. He also taught me to try talking with( strangers in life. It {#blank#}4{#/blank#} funny, but it really helped me to be more confident. 

Little by little, with my hard practice, now I become {#blank#}5{#/blank#} than before.
