In order to make our after-school life colorful and relax our minds, we went for an outing to the West Hill.

A teacher taught her students to play a game. The teacher told each child to bring a 1 with a few potatoes. Each potato was given a name of a person that the child hated, so the number of potatoes that a child would put into the bag would 2 the number of people the child hated. 

Some children had two potatoes. Some had three and others even had five potatoes. The teacher then told them to 3 the bag wherever they went for a week. 

As the days went by, the children started to complain（抱怨）about the unpleasant 4 coming from the rotten（腐烂的）potatoes. And the students with five potatoes also had to carry 5 bags.

 Last month we {#blank#}1{#/blank#} ( ask) our students about their free time activities. Our questions were about exercise, use of the Internet and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( watch) TV. Here are the results. 

 We found that only fifteen percent {#blank#}3{#/blank#} our students exercise every day. Forty— five percent exercise four to six hours a week. Twenty percent exercise only one to three times a week. And twenty percent do not exercise at all. 

 We all know that many students often go online, but we were {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ( surprise) that ninety percent of them use the Internet every day. The other ten percent use it at least three or four times a week. Most students use it for {#blank#}5{#/blank#}( funny) not for homework. 

 The answers {#blank#}6{#/blank#} our questions about watching TV were also interesting. Only two percent of the students watch TV one to three times a week. Thirteen percent watch TV {#blank#}7{#/blank#}( fourth) to six times a week. And eighty— five percent watch TV every day! Although many students like to watch sports, game shows are the {#blank#}8{#/blank#}( many) popular. 

 It's good to relax by {#blank#}9{#/blank#} ( use) the Internet or watching game shows, but we think the best way to relax is through exercise. It's healthy for the mind and the body. Exercise such as playing sports is fun, and you can spend time with your friends and family as you play together. And remember, " Old habits {#blank#}10{#/blank#}( death) hard. " So start exercising before it's too late. 

In honour of Mother's Day, Michelle shares memories of her mum, Marian Robinson. In a special speech, she reflects on what she learned about parenting from her own mother:

My mother is a woman who chooses her words carefully. She sometimes speaks slowly with a smile to make herself understood. It's a style that makes her a good partner or friend who doesn't need the limelight(公众焦点). 

As I've grown older, I've seen how her manner in conversation reflects her way of parenting. When it came to raising her kids, my mum knew that her voice was less important than allowing me to use my own, which meant she listened a lot more than told you how she thought you should behave. During my growing up, she was willing to endure(忍受) endless questions from me: Why do we have to eat eggs for breakfast? Why do people need jobs? Why are the houses bigger in their neighbourhoods? Why do we need to study? She would listen patiently to my reasons, instead of speaking angrily to me, if I had a fight with some of the neighbour kids. 

In today's world, it is easy to think that she wasn't being responsible, and that she was letting the kids rule the roost But that was not true. She and my father love their children very much, pouring a deep and long- lasting foundation(基础) of goodness and honesty, of right and wrong, into my brother and me. Even if I got bad grades at school, she never punished me seriously. Instead, she always talked about the reasons with me. What they did simply let us be ourselves. 

. . . I see now how important that kind of freedom is for all children, especially for girls. . . It's up to us, as mothers and mother figures, to give the girls in our lives the kind of support(支持) that lifts up their voices—not necessarily with our own words, but by letting them find the words themselves. 

 Hi, I'm Zhang Wen. My English name is Amy. I'm 13. I'm a middle school student.

I want to have lunch with Maria now. But she isn't in the classroom. Where is she? Oh, she may go to the school library(图书馆). This morning, she tells me she needs to return (归还) some books to the library today. You may ask, "Who is Maria?" Well, she is my classmate. And she is also my good friend.
