【盐仓24秋】外研版(2024)英语九年级上册A本Module 5 Museums Unit 1 第1课时
Around the world there are many famous museums where people can enjoy art. Washington DC has the National Gallery of Art; Paris has the Louvre; London has the British Museum for art and Science Museum for technology. Florida International University (FIU) in Miami also shows art for people to see. And it does so without a building, or even a wall for its drawings and paintings.
FIU has opened a computer art museum in the US. You don't have to visit the university to see the art. You just need a computer linked to a telephone.
You can call the telephone number of a university computer and connect your own computer to it. All of the art is stored in the school computer. It is computer art, produced electronically(用电子装置) by artists on their own computers. In only a few minutes, your computer can receive and copy all the pictures and drawings.
Robert Shostak is the director of the new computer museum. He says he started the museum because computer artists had no place to show their works.
A computer artist could only record his pictures electronically and send the records, or floppy discs(软盘), to others to see on their computers. He could also put his pictures on paper. But to print good pictures on paper, the computer artist needed an expensive laser(激光) printer.
Robert Shostak says the electronic museum is mostly for art or computer students at schools and universities. Many of the pictures in the museum are made by students. Mr Shostak said the FIU Museum will make computer art more fun for computer artists because more people can see it. He says artists enjoy their work much more if they have an audience. And the great number of home computers in America could mean a huge audience for the electronic museum.
Here is some cool information about the world's population.
| It took 12 years for the world's population to grow from 7 billion to 2022's 8 billion. But it will take about 15 years for the population to reach 9 billion. That's because fewer babies are born now. In 50 years, this can slow the growth of the world's population. |
| The day on which the world's population grows by one billion is important. The United Nations chooses a baby born on that day as the symbolic(象征的)baby. For example, the world's population reached 8 billion on November 15, 2022. Vinice Mabansag was born on that day and she became the symbolic 8 billionth baby. |
| More boys than girls are born around the world. There are 106 baby boys born for every 100 baby girls. There are 1. 8 billion people between the ages of 10 and 24. That's the largest number ever(有史以来). |
Winter sports need to be in cold places. Have you ever imagined one day people go to other planets to hold the Winter Olympics?
Mercury (水星) is the closest planet to the sun. In the daytime, the temperature can be up to 430℃, but at night it cools down to -160℃. There's one area that the sun can never reach. There's a lot of ice there. Maybe we can go speed skating and figure skating (花样滑冰) there!
The temperature on Mars is between -140℃ and 30℃. At the north and south poles of Mars, there are areas covered by ice and snow. There is also a big mountain called Mount Olympus. So maybe we can ski on Mars!
Pluto(冥王星) is a dwarf planet far away from the sun. It's very cold there, about -229℃. There's a lot of ice. It's even harder than steel. So maybe we can go sledding (滑雪橇) on Pluto. |
