Reading books increases our knowledge and understanding of the world around us. To encourage people to find the fun of reading and pay tribute (表达敬意) to famous writers, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO 联合国教科文组织) fixed April 23rd as World Book and Copyright (版权) Day in 1926 in Spain.

The idea of specially choosing a day to celebrate books came from Spanish writer Vicente Clavel Andres. In 1922 he suggested the idea as a way to remember Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. Four years later the first celebration took place on October 7th, because it is said to be Cervantes' birthday. But the celebration was then moved to April 23rd, the date of his death in 1930.

In 1995, the UNESCO decided to pay tribute to writers and books around the world as a way of encouraging everyone to read books. Choosing April 23rd seemed proper. Because it's not only the date of Cervantes' death, but also the date of the famous writer William Shakespeare's death. Besides, several famous writers were born on April 23rd, making the date special in the literature (文学) world.

Starting in 2001, every year, one city around the world would be the World Book Capital for a year. The chosen city always holds activities to encourage people of all ages at home and abroad to read and spread its values. Activities include reading books and plays, handing out bookmarks and announcing (公布) the winners of literary (文学) competitions.

Inventions are very important and they can easily change our life. The followings are some great inventions. 

You may have seen such a photo: with a long white beard(胡须) and wearing a bamboo hat, an old fisherman stands on a boat. Huang Quande looked like this when tourists took photos with him on the Lijiang River in Guilin, Guangxi. He became famous on the internet that many believed the fisherman on the back of the 20-yuan Renminbi banknote(纸币) was based on his image(形象). Sadly, Huang passed away at the age of 94 on Feb. 18.

According to Jimu News, Huang shows the true spirit of the Lijiang River. He was a positive(乐观的) and kind man. In his 90s, Huang could still move his boat with speed. After he gave up fishing and became a photo model in 2008, he took photos with tourists world wild. 

The image of the fisherman on the back of the 20-yuan Renminbi banknote is not just about one man. Instead, it is a cultural symbol that makes the Guilin landscape(风景)what it is. 

In fact, the different backsides of the fifth series of Renminbi banknotes show the most iconic(标志性的)landscapes in the country. Each of them carries its own cultural value. 

For example, on the back of the 5-yuan banknote is Taishan Mountain in Shandong-For thousands of years, many emperors would go there and pray(祈祷)for the country's prosperity繁 荣). On the back of the l-yuan banknote are the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon(三潭映月)in West Lake, Zhejiang. Since ancient times, it has been a great place for moon watchers during Mid-Autumn Festival. The candle lights from the three pagodas(塔) are reflected on the water and look like little moons.
 

The Renminbi pictures have helped make  the landscapes even more popular among  tourists. Following the banknotes from 1 yuan  20yuan Lijiang River, Guangxi to 100, Pan Jinyu from Chongqing had a "banknote tour" when he was 21. "I want to finish a ceremonial(有仪式感的) journey and feel the beauty of our country. "he said. 

A. Listen when your parents are speaking. If you do so, they will listen to you as well.When true communication takes place, you will find it interesting to talk with them.

B. Find time to have fun with your parents. When you and your parents are free, you can play games together. It's a good way to.communicate with each other.

C.Write down what you want to say. You don't have to write down every word and even a few key points can help remind you of important things to talk about.

D.Find the right time and place. Make sure that your parents have enough time to talk with you. Don't talk in public places or when they have many things to do.

E. Don't argue with your parents. Be patient when you disagree with them. If you speak to your parents impolitely or even argue with them, it will hurt all of you.

F.Be brave to talk to your parents. They love you and are willing to support you, so anything you want to say will be welcome. Don't be shy and why not have a try?

It was a warm spring day in 2021. Chen Beier, a reporter from Hong Kong, was on her way to a small village called Atule'er. The small village sits at the top of a high cliff (悬崖). People can only get up to it by climbing a 2, 556-step steel ladder*. It is very dangerous. 

So, was Chen looking for adventure (冒险) there? The answer is no. The reporter was trying to show people something. 

In February 2021, China got rid of poverty (摆脱贫困). Many people couldn't believe this, because China has a large number of poor villages. To show the truth to people, Chen went to make No Poverty Land. 

The trip was so hard. When she was halfway up the ladder to Atul'er, for example, Chen felt so tired that she could hardly go any further. She was also afraid of heights. The villagers advised her to stop the climb, but the woman didn't stop. 

This steel ladder, in fact, is only six years old. Before it was built, the villagers had to face even bigger danger and use a rattan (藤条制成的) ladder. The government also built houses for the villagers at the foot of the mountain. Through No Poverty Land, people can easily see how life in poor places of China has been improved. 

China has changed a lot, but some people just find it hard to believe. Now, Chen has shown us what we can do about that: Don't just tell people about the great changes, show them when you can.

Long before ice cream, water ices were popular all over Asia. During the Tang Dynasty, some people made ice cream from milk. Later, travelers took this idea back to Europe. Soon, many people wanted to try it and it became popular everywhere.
