Red is the color of China. Among all the colors, red is most easily seen. The color red is fresh and joyful. And in China we call it China Red. Chinese people are attracted (吸引) by the color red. On the one hand, it makes people feel excited. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

No country in the world has ever used a color in such a way as China. Here, red is a symbol. It gives color to the spirit of the nation. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Even now, it is also a theme for China that will last forever, and it is an important color for the Chinese people. "China Red"has been used very often, attracting the world's attention. 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Traditional things such as Chinese knots (中国结), lanterns, and traditional paper-cuts are almost all red. Most importantly, red is the main color of our national flag. They all play special roles in China.

"Dream may be more important than sleep. We all need to dream," some scientists say. Dreams take up (占据) about half of our sleeping time. People have several dreams each night.

Dreams are like short films. They are usually in color. Some dreams are like old films. They come to us over and over again. That may be because the dreamer is worrying about something. Dreaming may be a way of trying to find an answer.

Some people get new ideas about their work from dreams. They may think about their work all day. These ideas can carry over into dreams. Sometimes we wake up with a good feeling from a nice dream. But often we can't remember the dream. Dreams can go away quickly from memory.

But too much dreaming can be harmful. The more we sleep, the longer we dream. The mind is working hard when we dream. That is why we may have a long sleep and still wake up exhausted. We may feel sleepy the whole day.

Several months ago, New Zealand announced a plan. Under the plan, the country would make it illegal(非法的) for people born after 2008 to buy cigarettes(香烟). {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. And it won't make a difference to smokers now.

Starting in 2023, people under the age of 15 would be stopped from buying cigarettes. After that, the age limit(限制) for buying tobacco products would be raised every year. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. In short, the move will stop people born after 2008 from ever buying tobacco products.

Tobacco products contain something poisonous(有毒的) called nicotine(尼古丁). Though nicotine isa poison, when people have a little bit of it, it can give them an excited feeling. Over time, nicotine changes the body so people feel like they need more of it. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Then people are unable to stop taking it. That's why it's so difficult for people to stop smoking.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. It's one of the leading causes of deaths around the world. In New Zealand, about 5,000 people die every year from illnesses connected with smoking.

No country has ever tried an age limit- raising smoking plan like New Zealand's before. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. We expect the plan to have important influences.

On Saturday afternoon, four boys took part in the finals of the high jump. The amazing event （比赛） took place at Breakers Stadium. Fans （粉丝） filled the stands to cheer for the boys. Each boy was allowed three jumps. All three jumps were averaged （平均的） to decide the final scores. All four boys were good athletes （运动员）. But Franki e Garcia's skills topped （领先） the others. He won the first place.

The population of the world continues to increase, but in some areas the population is falling. 

This is true in Europe and especially in Eastern Europe. In Russia, the population is going down by about 100 people every hour!

One of the main reasons is a change of lifestyle (生活方式). Most young people, especially educated women, have a different idea on children compared with their parents. "I have one child and she is enough for me," said Linda, a doctor from Russia. "My husband and I both work full- time. We can't imagine having more than one child." Many women decide to have children later in life or not to have children at all. "I don't want to have any children until I have worked for at least 10 years," said Sally from England. Her opinion is typical (典型的) in Europe. 

In Poland, the population is going down for a different reason. A lot of young people are leaving the country to work abroad. Poland joined the European Union in 2004 and since then more than half a million people have moved to Britain, Germany, Spain and Italy. Even so, the population of those four countries and many other countries in West Europe is also going down. 

Many governments are now encouraging people to have larger families. In France, women can receive nearly $1,000 a month for a year if they have a third child. Austrian women receive about $700 a month for three years when they have their first child. 

Judie's class was studying Chinese culture. One day, her teacher went into the classroom 1 some kites. He told them that kites 2 in China more than 2, 000 years ago. At the end of the class, he said, "The Chinese make kites that mean something important to them. I expect each of you 3 a kite that means something important to you. You will have a 4 understanding of kites than before. "

Judie decided to ask her dad for help as it was 5 first time to make a kite. 

"What do you think of when your see a kite?" her dad asked. 

Judie thought for a moment and 6 , "Butterflies. "

Judie's dad agreed that it would be a good idea to make a butterfly kite. They made a cross with some wood sticks, 7 then Judie painted a butterfly on a piece of white paper. Next they stuck the paper on the cross. Finally they tied a long tail to the bottom. 

The next morning, they took 8 kite to the park and tested it. "Wow!" she cried proudly. "9 high my butterfly flies!"

"Judie, can you tell me 10 butterflies?" asked her dad. 

Judie replied, "To me, butterflies mean beauty and freedom!"
