Volunteer Work Done by Class 10 in Winter Holiday

Roy is a 12-year-old boy from California, US. He weighs 147 pounds (67kg). But six months ago, he weighed more than 202 pounds (91kg). How did he lose all that weight in only half a year?

"One day, I was surprised to find that I weighed about 200 pounds," Roy says. "I thought I had to do something. " Roy is from a boxing family — his father and two elder brothers are professional boxers. So he decided to start boxing. He began with easy exercise, like sit-ups and push-ups. Then Roy started jogging. "No kids like running," he says. "I don't want to do it, either, but I have no choice but to keep on. "

Months later, Roy joined a boxing club in his city. He is always the first kid at the club to begin exercising, and the last to leave with sweat on his face. Every day he boxes for about three hours. "Roy works very hard," says his  coach, Hector Lopez. "It's surprising to see him lose the pounds so quickly. I've never seen anything like this in my 20 years of coaching. "

Roy is very happy with his weight now. There is a family photo in his room from 18 months ago. "Each time I look at the photo, I laugh at myself. I was so big back then. " Roy says. "I look 100 times thinner and 1,000 times stronger now. "

Chinese writer Hai Ya's The Space-Time Painter won the Hugo Award(雨果奖)for Best Novelette(中短篇小说)on Oct. 21st. He became the third Chinese writer to win a Hugo Award after Liu Cixin and Hao Jingfang. 

When creating The Space-Time Painter, Hai Ya drew his idea from a famous painting, A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains(《千里江山图》). It was created by Wang Ximeng from the Song Dynasty. Based on Wang, Hai created a painter named Zhao Ximeng. After many hard times, Zhao's mind leaves his body and enters a space where a modern policeman is trying to solve a case(案件)about an ancient painting. 

Hai Ya's story with science fiction began in his childhood. "When I was a child. the bookstore in my hometown helped create a beautiful garden in my mind that belonged to me only. In it, science fiction offered the most beautiful'flowers';it opened a new world for me as a kid, "Hai Ya told Beijing Youth Daily. 

Hai Ya's works feature a mix of history and science fiction. These two styles seem opposite:One looks back at the past, and the other faces the future. However, in Hai Ya's works, they find a perfeet balance. 

"If we can only imagine the future and things in space like rockets, it will only limit our imagination, "Hai Ya told Shenchen Special Zone Daily. "I don't think history is something completely in the past. It is flowing(流动的), and we can make predictions about the future by looking back at history.  ▲ , "he added. 

More Chinese writers today are trying to mix traditional culture with modern stories. Hai Ya believes that it is not a choice but a natural process. "Our history and culture have universal values(普世价值)that can touch everyone, "he said to Xinhua. 

A player recently bought himself a two- meter- long golden cudgel(金箍棒) after playing the video game Black Myth:Wukong. It is similar in every de tail to the magic stick from the game.

The stick is now a popular product on Taobao and Tmall. On these platforms, other products co- branded with the game are also selling well.

Black Myth is China's first AAA video game. Since it came out on August 20, it has taken the gaming world by storm. It sold 10 million copies within the first three days. This makes it one of the fastest- selling video games.

Beyond that, the game has had a" Black Myth" effect across several industries. Sales of home video game consoles(游戏机) have increased greatly from last year. Other gaming- related goods like laptops, keyboards, mice and headphones have all seen big increases in sales.

Moreover, its success has led to a travel boom in parts of China. Many scenes in the game are from real places. Players want to follow their hero and visit the same places. As a result, several sites have reported increased tourist activity. Some have even seen ticket sales three times higher than before. For example, the Yuhuang Temple in Shanxi Province, has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in China. Large number s of visitors go there to see its famous coloured sculptures(彩塑) from the Jin, Yuan and Ming dynasties.

With the rapid development of short videos, their widespread use has become a major trend. A recent study surveyed 1,557 Chinese people about their short video— watching habits. It found that people may be so immersed(沉迷的) in short videos that they cannot stop watching them.

People have told stories about Robin Hood for more than 700 years. Nobody knows if he was a real person or an invented character. In the legends(传说), Robin was quite smart and had a playful sense of humour. He loved playing jokes and tricks on people. The stories say that Robin Hood was a skilled archer(弓箭手)and he always carried a bow and arrow.

He wore green clothes and a hat with a green feather. He lived in Sherwood Forest with a group of outlaws(逃犯), known as his "Happy Men". The group included Friar Tuck, Little John, who was unusually tall, and Robin's true love, Maid Marian.

Sherwood Forest was a royal(皇家的)hunting forest in county of Nottinghamshire in England. Most people thought that forests were dangerous places to go. People travelling through the forests were often robbed by outlaws.

The stories say that Robin Hood only took money from rich people so that he could give it to people who needed it. So he became famous for "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor".

The Sheriff(郡长)of Nottinghamshire was Robin's arch-enemy. It was the sheriff's job to keep the woods safe and to make sure that nobody stole the king's deer. The Sheriff of Nottinghamshire tried to catch Robin Hood, but never succeeded.

Centuries ago, people loved to tell each other stories of Robin Hood. Later he became a famous character in books, and nowadays Robin is still a well-loved hero in books, theatre, TV and films.
