This month, we went on a five day trip to Xishuangbanna, a beautiful place in the south of Yunnan Province. The weather there is hot and wet. There a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} many kinds of plants and animals. I want to i {#blank#}2{#/blank#} some interesting things we saw to you during our trip.

In the jungle(丛林), we saw a twining(缠绕的)plant. These P {#blank#}3{#/blank#} grow when seeds-seeds mainly from banyan tees (榕树)are moved by animals or wind to some other trees. These seeds gradually grow, developing their own aerial (空气的) roots. Little by lite, they will get themselves around the host tree and f {#blank#}4{#/blank#} kill it, just like a snake kills its enemy.

A {#blank#}5{#/blank#} thing we learned is that when a tree gets big and strong, some of its aerial roots will grow into the ground and develop into a new tee, just like the way cell division (细胞分裂) works. The w {#blank#}6{#/blank#} tree will look like a small forest. I think this is quite a {#blank#}7{#/blank#}.

In the forest, you will sometimes find some red leaves among the green leaves. Why is that?

One reason is that the sunshine is very strong in Yunnan. The trees n {#blank#}8{#/blank#} use all of their leaves in order to do photosynthesis (光合作用) and grow, so the color of some of the leaves c {#blank#}9{#/blank#}to red.

We really enjoyed our trip to Yunnan. We learned a lot about n {#blank#}10{#/blank#} and had a rally fun time. I hope we can take more trips like this in the future.

Once there was a teenage boy who was known as a fast runner in his village. He only cared about winning every race and becoming more successful.

One day,the boy took part in a running race in his village. He won the 200, 100 and 50-meter races without any problem. He was proud of himself and received great applause (掌声). But his grandfather stepped in and challenged him to a race with two unexpected competitors, an old man and a blind girl. The boy thought it was unbelievable but accepted. In the race, the boy finished first, while the old man and the blind girl were still at the starting line. With joy, he waved his hands at the crowd. But they kept silent.

"Why are people not cheering for me like before?" he asked his grandfather.

"Start the race again with them. But this time, all of you should cross the finish line at the same time," the grandfather replied.

The boy was surprised but agreed to the race. During the second race, the boy took the hands of the old man and the blind girl and walked slowly with them to the finish line. The crowd gave them a standing applause.

The boy asked his grandfather, "For whom are the people cheering? Is it for me, or them?" The grandfather smiled and said. "The crowd did not cheer for any one of you. They cheered for how you all ran the race together. Facing the race of life, what matters is not just winning, but how you run the race."

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} They can play soccer or music. They can also draw very well.Elephants remember well. They can walk for a long time and never get lost.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} People cut down many trees so elephants are losing their homes.People also kill elephants for their ivory. Today there are only about 3,000elephants(over 100,000 before).

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} We must save the trees and not buy things made of ivory. Remember that March 13th is Thai Elephant Day.

Shanghai is a nice city. The 1 here is mild, that is, it is 2 too hot 3 too cold. It changes from season to season. Now many tall buildings have been 4 one after another. But 5 the same time, the city is full of people. As a result, the traffic is terrible. Traffic jam s happen during the 6 hours. If you want to go to a place7 away, the fastest way is neither driving, nor riding a bike. It is often walking! The policemen in Shanghai are very 8 . Visitors can turn for help if they 9 their ways or lose something. But when you disobey traffic rules, they will be very 10 with you. A lot of people in Shanghai speak English. Travelers from English- speaking countries feel at home here. You are welcome to Shanghai.

 In China, when a baby is one year old. there is a fun activity, zhuazhou, at his or her birthday party. 

 On that day, people usually put some food, toys, and other things on a table. Then , parents put their tables a the table and they can take anything on it. 

 If a baby takes a pen, people will say he or she may be a good writer in the future. If a baby takes a cooker. people will know he or she will take good care of the family. When a baby takes a cake or a toy, people will think he or she may know how to have a good time in future life. 

Zhuazhou has a long history in China. lt begins in the Northern and Southern Dynasties(南北朝). And it becomes popular(受欢迎的) in the Tang and Song Dynasties. Ancient (古代的) people think of it as one of the most important rituals (仪式) in life. Now zhuazhou, is still (仍然) popular. Many Chinese families will have zhuazhou, parties these days zhuazhou, , as an old tradition(传统) in China, shows people's great love for a new member of their family.
