My name is Philippe and my wife's name is Sophie. We're from1. Recently we were faced with a 2situation while traveling by car in the mountains with our hired driver. Just as we began to doze(打盹), the car made a strange, loud noise and then3working.

    We tried communicating with the driver but with little4because he couldn't speak French. He tried to tell us with body language that he was going to get help and then he left.

    We were in a poor area, with 5houses in sight. We started to bear the cries of wild animals Sophie was very afraid. We didn't have much food and it was getting 6and darker I began to lose7. Should we leave the car? Would our driver ever8? Was he a trustworthy man? We were very worried.

A couple of hours passed. 9, the headlights from another car appeared in the dark. A man got out of the car. Finding us cold and hungry, he kindly asked us to10his car.

11we left, he put a note on the windshield of the car with his phone number on it. Then he drove us to a nearby village, and we met his family. His cousin spoke French and he 12us tea and local foods. 13asked us questions and they were excited to have unexpected guests.

    Later that evening, the phone rang. It was our14. He had kept his word and fixed the car.

    I will15forget the warmth we received on that day because we depended on a complete stranger for help.

Welcome to Pingshan Culture Square

 Last month, Shenzhen launched its first smart cat adoption(领养) center in Bao' an District in July. The center is a 6- square- meter room with a glass door. It makes it easier for people to adopt street cats. Through this center, two cats have already found new homes.

 People who rescue street cats can apply to bring them to the center. If the staff think the cats are suitable to stay, there's a daily fee of 20 yu an to take care of the cats' health 24 hours a day. The fee can be paid by the rescuer or raised by the public.

 People who might want to adopt a cat can enter the center by scanning(扫描)a QR code and paying 10 yuan. Visitors also need to put on shoe covers before going in. Inside, visitors can find basic information about the cats and how to adopt the cats. There's also a smart feeding machine where visitors can buy food for the cats. And it doesn't cost anything to adopt a cat.

 Many people like the center for protecting street cats, especially in winter. However, some citizens worry that the cats might be harmed by cat haters. The staff explained that they will monitor the center all the time, and they can lock the doors through remote control if needed. Serious problems will be reported to the police at once. The center allows up to three visitors at a time, and children must be with a parent.

 More smart cat adoption centers are planned for Nanshan and Bao' an districts. With the adoption centers, over 10 pet- themed parks, and 50 pet- friendly malls, Shenzhen is on its way to becoming a" pet- friendly city".

As a little girl when I heard my sister talk about her life-changing term abroad in Paris, it became my goal to visit it one day. When my daily life in New Jersey seemed boring, I often 1 about walking around the streets of Paris. Luckily, with our financial (财务的) situation2 , European travel became a reality. 

Travelling to a European country with my3  was exciting, but it would not be complete without facing problems and figuring them out. 

We had just started to get4  familiar (熟悉的) with the Paris subway system. Since using it was very difficult, we were walking slowly until we5 the subway was about to leave. As soon as I6 , the doors shut with my mom on the other side. I did not have my cell phone, neither of us could speak a word of7  , and we had no idea how to connect each other. My mom and I, who were both8  , began to knock heavily on the doors. Suddenly, a man with a very puzzled look on his face walked over to the doors and simply9 them. My mom stepped on and we hugged10  we just met each other for the first time in years. A huge sense of11  washed over us. 

12 , my mom and I were able to find all those tourist places we wanted to go. We began to explore the neighborhood we were staying in, such as finding our favorite breakfast café13  walking to museums. The trip to Paris was not just14  because of the beautiful clothes or the sidewalk cafés, but it also taught me it is okay to run into15  when trying to explore an unfamiliar area, and if you keep working, you will improve.
