Community (社区) Cleanup

A community cleanup brings volunteers together to clean, repair and improve public (公众的) places with rubbish or being broken. The cleanup project (项目) covers all kinds of public places-parks, playground s and even parking lots (停车场).

How to make the project welcome

A cleanup can be a one-time event. It doesn't have to be held very often or last for a long time. If you like you can keep on the activity by moving the cleanup from one place to another. 

Sharing the work—letting people do different jobs that interest them and making each new cleanup a fresh chance for volunteers.

Make sure your project is realistic (可行的). It's a good idea to start with a project that can be finished in one afternoon. Don't start a large project at the beginning because it is difficult to finish.

No matter your cleanup project is a one-time event or a year-long one, don't forget to celebrate the results. Take photos and videos, then put them on the Internet and write thank-you letters to those who helped. Making a meal in the end can make volunteers look forward to working together again.

Jingwai Mingde Primary School is in Xuanwei, Yunnan. It was made up of five country primary schools in 2008. It has mor than 1, 000 teachers and students now. The country primary school is famous for its special labour lessons. It has a 150-mu farm. The students can help their school get food self-sufficiency(自给自足) by working on the farm. ↵

Each class(from Grade Three to Grade Six) can get a piece of land on the farm. The students can take two labour lessons on the farm with the help of their labour teachers. They love their land very much and spend most of their free time on it. They plant all kinds of vegetables, such as beans, potatoes, tomatoes and carrots. Some even plant apple trees, orange trees and other fruit trees. Their school looks much nicer with green trees and beautiful flowers all year round. 

There is also a zoo in the school. The students can keep chickens, ducks and other farm animals in it. They have learnt a lot by keeping the farm animals. 

"The children have learnt how to do farm work by working on the farm, " said a teacher. "It also helps them learn how to get on well with others and make their school life more colourful. "

Yan Ning, a famous Chinese biologist(生物学家), said that she would return to the motherland from the USA. What {#blank#}1{#/blank#} news it was!

Yan was born in Jinan, Shandong. She used to be an excellent {#blank#}2{#/blank#} at Tsinghua University. After graduating(毕业), she went to Princeton University for further study. In 2007, at the age of 30, Yan returned to Tsinghua University and became one of the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} professors(教授) there. In 2017, Yan decided to join Princeton University {#blank#}4{#/blank#} and worked there for 5 years. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} she was there, Yan got a number of prizes for her great work.

On November 1st, 2022, when the 45- year- old scientist was speaking at a meeting in Shenzhen, she said she would {#blank#}6{#/blank#} Princeton and return to China. She wanted to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} set up the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation. It became a hot topic online." Yan Ning, welcome back to China!" This might be the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} that Chinese people wanted to say to her most.

Jay and Joan like to spend the winter holiday with their mum and dad. This morning they were all going sledding (滑雪橇).There was a heavy snow last night. The hill at the park was great for sledding. Jay and Joan asked their parents to take them out .Their parents agreed(同意).

They all put on warm clothes and boots (靴子).They brought hot drinks，put the sleds in the car and drove to the park.

Jay and his dad went down the hill on one sled. Joan and her mum went down on the other sled .They went fast. The snow flew on their faces. They should and laughed. Sledding was fun.

After playing for two hours，they took a short break. They wanted to have a hot drink to get out of the cold，so they went into a warm house. They talked about their fun day there.

Soon it was time to go back home. Jay and Joan were very happy today.

When I was young, my family lived a hard life in the countryside. One evening we were visiting some friends and the weather was very bad. It began to rain on {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (we) way back home. Dad carried me on his back. Mum {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(give) her coat to my brother. We walked together in the rain for more than an hour. 

I was fat at that time and Dad must be tired to carry me {#blank#}3{#/blank#} such a long time. He almost fell down many {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(time). I tried to get down and walk myself,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} I did nothing well since I was just a little kid. 

After arriving home, we found the inside of our house was covered with water. The rain had come through the{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (break) roof and water was everywhere. Mum put bowls all around the house {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (catch) the rain. Then she put my brother and me to the dry place on the bed. I fell asleep soon.{#blank#}8{#/blank#} I opened my eyes, I found Dad and Mum were sleeping in chairs, each having caught {#blank#}9{#/blank#} bad cold. 

It happened more than twenty years ago. And now I'm a mother too. I can remember neither the beginning nor the end, but I{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (real) understand what the parents' love means. Whenever I think of it, tears run down my face from my eyes. 

One day, a big red hen is playing with her chickens in the garden. After some time she feels1 and she takes her chickens to2 food. When they are3 , she finds some grains of wheat（几粒麦子）. So she asks4 chickens to plant them in the back of the garden. But5 wants to do it. 6 big red hen has to do it herself. After a long time, they get a lot of wheat. 

She says to her chickens, "7 will take the wheat to the store and get flour（面粉）?" But they don't want to do it. So she8 the wheat to the store and put the flour home. 

After she gets home, she says, "Who will make some bread9 the flour?" They all say they are too busy and don't have10 to do it. 

When she11 the bread, she says to her chickens, "Who wants to eat12 ?"

"I will. " they say. 

"No, you can't. You don't want to do anything13 I make the bread. You must know ‘no pains, no gains'（没有付出就没有收获）. She doesn't14 any bread to her chickens and she eats all the bread15 . All her chickens are regretful（后悔）.
